I have the blueprints to the classic Constitution Class starship, from about 35 years ago, or so, complete with swimming pool, bowling alley and little park things. On it, you can see, on the large main decks, they have at least twelve orgasmatrons on each deck, fewer on the smaller decks, though each officer’s quartering has a private one. So, that explains that. Of course, a prude like Roddenberry would never allow those to be revealed on TV or in the films.

Anyway, the characters aren’t using convenient applications of the technologies they already have, let alone the convenient technologies that we have in the real world, but it’s hard to fault TV writers for that - they have deadlines.
Actually the “Playboy” photos of Crosby were first published in March 1979, selling them as Bing’s rebellious grandfather. But a decade later, when TNG hit the air, Hefner (who doesn’t miss an opportunity to recycle material) published them again.

I know I’m a horrible person for saying this, but I’d watch an episode where the Enterprise got taken over by holographic pornstars.
That being said, I could have lived the rest of my life in peace without ever having to think about where the space people went to masturbate.
Lastly, one should take some of the weirder elements of TNG with a grain of salt. Ancient Roddenberry was starting to get a bit rattly in the attic by then, and while the idea of spacefolk taking their spouses and offspring exploring with them may have sounded good to the Great Bird when he wrote it, I also think he wasn’t in much of a position to think it through, much less wonder what all these Hollywood writers were going to make of the idea.
There is a reason they basically took the show away from him and handed it off to Rick Berman.
I assumed it was like ships’ crew quarters anywhere - they all just pretended not to notice.
I still laugh at the implied sexy misuse of the holodecks. Reggie Barclay especially had a thing for them. Theres an entire episode of him being late for work because he was uh, busy on the holodeck. Riker goes in to confront him and discovers a holodeck version of Troi.
DS9, Quark got Kira’s dna to make an exact holosuite hooker for an alien client. She was not amused.

I think he did. Or maybe Tom Paris programmed Tovak’s wife? I can’t recall. Either way Tovak was a happy Vulcan.
Those awful Spandex uniforms also made it hard for him (and others, I would assume) to move (stand, sit) normally.
Which brings to mind the touchscreen interfaces on the bridge. Why did they never activate when Cmdr. Riker sat on them? You can bet that if I could destroy Ceti Alpha V with my smartphone, I’d LOCK the damn thing before I stuck it in my pocket!
Too true. Just the other day I noticed half the bridge crew sitting and leaning on the control panels. The fuh.
The Enterprise control interfaces are a sterling example of WYWIWYG technology – What You WANT Is What You Get. And everyone who knew Riker made sure to put a pattern lock code on the surfaces to get them off sleep mode. And an arse/elbow recognition feature so you could not activate them that way.
I just have this mental picture of the bridge crew having to explain to an apoplectic Picard how someone accidentally incinerated a major population center with his ass…
