As far as British comedians for hosts, I could get behind Dara O’Brian. ---

I think O’Briain prefers to focus on his comedy career. The downside of TDS is that it’s a big commitment of time and will be the host’s main gig for the duration of his or her contract. ---

I’m sure that Noah will land on his feet. He’s got plenty of talent, and plenty of outlets that will be happy to have him. Wouldn’t be too surprised if he ends up taking on one of the “Big 3”. As far as TDS, Jon Stewart made it into the institution that it was, rather than just the silly little news parody show it was when he took over. When he left, he left a gap, an important institution had been removed, and Noah was not really up to filling it in. Noah still did better than a silly news parody show, but it wasn’t really filling the need that Stewart had found. Now, however, Jon Stewart has “The Problem” which from what I can see is everything he wanted TDS to be. He fills that need, far better than he ever did on TDS, so from a national discourse perspective, the replacement, if there is one, of TDS host, is not really as important. ---

He’s way into science. Mock the Week is ending, too, which is kind of sad. ---

I agree Schlesinger is riotously funny and talented at gender politics. I think she is the funniest current female comic, though there are several other good ones such as Nikki Glaser. Not for me to say how political hosts should be, but this _was_ a focus of the show, which I never saw before Stewart. Can she interview? Might be a stronger contender. I am sure there are a thousand gifted global comedians I do not know. This includes some of the above English and Irish comics. Wood, Williams and Wilmore have talent but not sure I’d watch them. Same with Bee and Riggle. Klepper and Hasan? Not seen them in enough stuff. Have their moments. Dunno. ---

I never really enjoyed Noah. We were dedicated daily watchers in the Stewart years, we gave Noah about a year to find his sea legs before we gave up on him. The DVR still records it but I can’t remember the last time we watched an episode. I’ll be glad when he’s gone. I think it’s fundamentally a bad idea to have a non-American in this chair. Even Noah who naturalized couldn’t speak to the issues the way a born and bread American could. You need someone who grew up with this shit there. An outsider lampooning American politics and news is just too snarky and condescending. The former TDS person I’d be most interested in seeing is Roy Wood Jr. It’s possible that he’s too much of a one-trick-pony for the main chair but I’ve always found his takes on stuff to be pretty original and funny. Being a black guy from the south is a pretty good angle for this show. This trend of looking literally anywhere but at a white American male is pretty stupid. Few would argue against Stewart being absolutely perfect for the job and he made it an institution. There’s something to be said for having a white guy shitting on all the other white guys in the GOP acting like asshats. But whatever, cast for talent not for demographics please. ---

Noah can’t speak as a “born and bred” American, but also Stewart couldn’t speak as an immigrant. Both perspectives are equally valuable, IMO. ---

Have you seen his stand-up? I’m not a huge fan of stand-up in general, but his stuff had me rolling. If we are committed to refilling the seat, and limiting ourselves to TDS veterans, Roy Wood Jr. is, IMHO, the best candidate. That doesn’t necessarily mean that he can do the job, the interviews especially require a different skillset that I don’t know whether or not he possesses. But, if he’s the next host, I will certainly give it a try. ---
