Obligatory explanation in comic form about why Wakefield is a crap-Bunnie.
Agreed: he’s a noxious, dangerous, loathesome creep.
And, just like other obnoxious dangerous creeps – creationists, faith-healers, climate change deniers, etc. – he still must be protected in his civil rights to lie his damn ass off. It’s a free country. It’s horrible, and the effects are not trivial: children have died from whooping cough.
But shit-for-brains Wakefield, while morally culpable, is not legally liable nor actionable. He is allowed to tell horrible lies about issues of public health.
(I’d enjoy giving an example, but the rules of the SDMB are more strict than the laws of the nation. Let’s just say that if I made a movie that claimed that daily ingestion of small amounts of granite is “good for your health, because it restores needed mineral nutrients” it would be a damn lie…and perfectly legal. Faith healers are permitted to do their dangerous and evil snake-dancing acts here. It’s horrible, but it’s the cost of liberty.)
Since the link mentioned famous celebrities who are anti-vax, I’ll add the slight hijack:
But, but…Jenny McCartny is hot! Or, she used to be, at least physically (not so much intellectually). How, can as a male not listen to her? Wow, 90’s version of Scylla and Charybdis–I need earwax.
Why should my PhD in molecular biology, and having friends/colleagues who actually work on producing vaccines, give me the knowledge to trump arguments from a bimbo who was most famous for posing nude before her anti-vax activism? Especially when expressed in public media like The View? We all know that all peer-reviewed “journals” are in bed with Big Pharma.
Of course–the government wants Big Pharma to vaccinate children so they can survive childhood diseases and grow up to pay taxes on their income to said government as adult SSN wage earners.
Connect the dot, sheeple!
Hot chick or scientists. I put it to you, Greg–you would you rather bang?
I put it to you, Greg–Animal House movie reference for those unfamiliar
A second spoiler for those posters who have no sense of sarcasm and/or satire. You’re the idiots responding to this as if it’s serious (but maybe didn’t check the spoiler tag. I know you’re out there!
dupe posting.
Agree. But he is not allowed to force someone to screen his lies. He can post it on YouTube if he wants.
Ah, I remember the days when discussion could be presented and understood by just the use of words. When people could follow complex arguments without the need for cute simple pictures. When the average attention span was longer than a single comic panel.
Is this our future?
Actually, one has to have an attention span sufficient to cover many comic panels. if that’s all some people can handle in the course of a busy day, so be it.
It’s much more sinister than that. The Elites push mass vaccination as part of a global depopulation agenda. Big Pharma profits when billions die. Wake up!
Just how old are you?
Exactly. And even YouTube has the right to reject it if they want. The guy has the right to make his (sick, twisted, psychotic) documentary, but nobody has to screen it for him if they don’t want to.
My right to craft my poetry does not seem to have automatically generated a paying audience. (“Infringement!”)
Really old! Older than the USA!
I must admit that before this whole fooferaw broke, I had never heard of the Prestigious Tribeca Film Festival. Sundance, yeah, and maybe some Eurofest or other, but not Tribeca (unless we’re talking about the neighborhood in Manhattan).
I’d bet that something well under 1% of the U.S. population could have come up with “Film Festival” when asked to associate anything with the word “Tribeca”.
Now that I’m edumacated on the subject, I guess it does have a certain reputation in the world of [del]movies[/del] film, and that denying Wakefield a place of honor at the table was more important than keeping Mike Adams from winning a Shorty award.
Oh, and all you people cheering the demise of Vaxxed from the festival are Nazis.
Joking? Whoosh? Please tell me I’ve been whooshed.
I’m not sure about that – the Tribeca festival is big – generally considered one of the five top film festivals in the US and top seven in North America. Until recently I didn’t even know that Tribeca was a New York neighborhood, or maybe just never thought about it – I only associated the name with the film festival.
O.K. already, I’m the only one in the contiguous 48 states who had never heard of the Tribeca Film Festival.
You effetes are just too frickin’ much.
It’s too bad he was able to get a visa to enter the country.
If Trump wanted to build a wall against quacks who had their licenses yanked, and I be for it.
I haven’t seen the article yet, but it appears he is going to show it someplace else in New York. I wish I were there to picket it.
De Niro was on the Today show this morning peddling his anti-vax bullshit and continuing to support the film.
FWIW, they four-walled it at the Angelika for a day or two. A friend of mine bit the bullet and wrote a review.
Also, WTF kind of name is “Del Bigtree?”
Hey now, don’t be hating on the Bigtrees, who are not collectively responsible for the kooky notions of this particular, er, scion.
Though the name does rather remind me of the character in the John Sandford thrillers named Del Capslock, which is admittedly a silly name.
Can’t you just see Sandford staring at his keyboard thinking, “A name! I need to think of a name for this character!”
