Trick-or-treating on Sunday?

If any kids show up at our house on Saturday, they’ll be SOL because we won’t be home all day.

If we were home, though, and any trick-or-treaters were to show up, I wouldn’t have the heart to deny them a piece of candy. But on the other hand, my evil imagination pictures something like this:

<Ding Dong!>
Kids: Trick or Treat!
Me: (feigning confusion) Huh? Isn’t Halloween tomorrow??
Parent standing behind kids: But tomorrow is Sunday! We can’t celebrate Halloween on the Lord’s day, silly!
Me: Um… Well, OK. Um, I didn’t know anybody was coming today. Hold on a second, I’ll be right back. (close door)
Me: (Opening door, several minutes later) Alllrighty then! I’m planning to buy LOTS of candy tomorrow morning, but I did find some great treats for you! Here’s some boullion cubes for Iron Man; a Chap-Stick for the pretty ballerina… hardly used, I promise! Dental floss - mint flavored! - for the scary vampire; and a yummy soy sauce packet for Dora the Explorer here. Bye kids! Happy Halloween! Have fun at church!!

Trick or Treating is happening on October 31st here, far as I know. That’s when The Boy will be going, anyway.

The only thing that has bothered me is last year it rained on Halloween, not a DRENCHING downpour but enough that most people needed an umbrella. Well the streets were DEAD. All the overprotective helicopter parents took their kids inside after no more than 15-20 minutes of trick or treating. AND This ticked me off… I mean it’s not like you get a do-over or they reschedule trick or treating because of weather. It’s rain or shine, man! The Boy stayed out as late as we usually allow (8ish) for trick or treating, and we went from house to house with parkas and big umbrellas. This holiday has an expiration date as far as kids ages go, and I wouldn’t dare ruin one of those years by making him go inside on account of rain.
