Oooo. Yucky buildings. My landlord, whom we always called by his FULL name earned a little postscript. Bill C\*\*\*, slumlord. Whenever we needed something fixed, like electrical outlets, the answer was “I’ll see about it.” Meaning, no way on gods green earth am I gonna tear myself away from my REAL love, singing in barber shop quartets, to fix your electrical ANYTHING.

Once, we had a horrible screeching noise coming from the swamp cooler in front of our microscopic unit. It was like nails on a chalkboard, but louder. The neighbors were freaking out. We called the Slumlord.

Us: “Please come out and check this!!! It’s horrible, and the place is closed, and we can’t get to it, and the neighbours are complaining…”

His bright reply? “Let’em complain.” And then he hung up on us.

We ended up cutting the power cord to stop the noise. Must have not been the first time either, because the cord had been spliced about five times. Badly.
