According to [jeepBeef.com](http://jeepBeef.com), the first Jeep front grills had nine vertical slots, and these were manufactured by Ford and Willy’s. That design was changed to seven slots by Willy’s-Overland, and Jeep has retained this ever since. Ford copyrighted the nine-slot grill design.

The term “jeep,” for the small transports made for the Allied forces in WWII by Willys and Ford, has an obscure and unclear origin.

The term “jeep” appears to date back to at least WWI, where it was variously used by members of the U.S. Army to describe new recruits, or unproven vehicles. Its popularization in describing the WWII vehicles appears to have been, at least in part, inspired by the character Eugene the Jeep (who, among his other amazing powers, could go anywhere and solve impossible problems. Another theory for the term comes from “GP” (for “general purpose”), the designation of Ford’s WWII military transport, but the Ford vehicle was actually designated the GPW, and did not stand for General Purpose.

Regardless, by early 1941, the vehicles were being referred to as “jeeps” by both the military, and Willys-Overland, and the name stuck.

You mat have by now lost your chance to ever see one of the Philippines’ great tourist attractions, the Jeepney. The noisy and colorful vehicles were originally retrofit Jeeps left behind after WWII, or newly-built vehicles in the same traditional style. Now, those over 15 years old have been banned.

The coastline of any place approaches infinity, as the observed fractal curves get smaller. You need to agree on the fractal units, before you can talk about whether Norway or Australia has the longer coastline, which is apparent by a casual glance at common scale maps. A coastline is the sum of point-to-point line segments, and different results are obtained with shorter segments.

1975 was the first full year of Gerald Ford’s Presidency. Appointed Vice President of the United States by Richard Nixon in the first use of Sec. 2 of the 25th Amendment, Ford succeeded Nixon as President when the latter resigned in August 1974, and in turn nominated Nelson Rockefeller as his Vice President using the same procedure of the 25th Amendment. It has not been used since.

Michael Rockefeller, the fifth child of Nelson Rockefeller, was 23 when he disappeared during a 1961 expedition in the Asmat region of southwestern New Guinea. There is no conclusive evidence as to whether he drowned or was attacked by a shark or saltwater crocodile. Also, as headhunting and cannibalism were still practiced in some areas of Asmat in 1961, it is possible that Rockefeller was killed and eaten by Asmat tribespeople.

English singer/songwriter Kate Bush was discovered in the mid-1970s by David Gilmour of Pink Floyd, when a mutual friend shared with him a demo tape of 50 compositions which had been written and recorded by Bush (who was, at that time, 16 years old). Gilmour helped Bush develop and record a more professional demo tape – he funded it, and recruited producer Andrew Powell and sound engineer Geoff Emerick, to help produce it; the tape led to Bush being awarded a recording contract by EMI.

Pink Floyd was a rock band formed in London in the 1960s. First performing together as a sextet under the name ‘Sigma 6’ in 1963, they had gone through an assortment of names including the ‘Meggadeaths’, the ‘Abdabs’, the ‘Screaming Abdabs’, ‘Leonard’s Lodgers’ _(a name inspired by their then-landlord, Mike Leonard)_, and the ‘Spectrum Five’, before settling on the ‘Tea Set’.

However, they were set to play a gig in 1965 when it came to their attention that another band, _also_ called the ‘Tea Set’, was on the bill. Guitarist Syd Barrett came up with a new name on the spur of the moment, combining the first names of two blues musicians, **Pink** Anderson and **Floyd** Council, whose records Barrett happened to have in his collection.

Three Rivers Stadium was an open-air, multi-purpose sports stadium in Pittsburgh, PA; it was located directly to the north of the confluence of the Allegheny and Monongahela Rivers into the Ohio River.

Three Rivers Stadium opened in 1970, and was home to the NFL’s Pittsburgh Steelers, and MLB’s Pittsburgh Pirates, until its demolishment after those teams’ 2000 seasons. It was replaced by Heinz Field (home to the Steelers, located immediately to the west of Three Rivers’ site) and PNC Field (home to the Pirates, located a few blocks to the east).
