The “wishbone formation” in American football consists of the quarterback under center, a fullback directly behind the quarterback, and two halfbacks behind, and to either side of, the fullback (thus forming a “Y”, or wishbone, shape). The wishbone was commonly used in college football during the 1970s and 1980s.

_The Ash Grove_, a traditional Welsh folk song, has been documentably used in various versions since the early 19th century. It has been used both as its own song with its own lyrics, and as the melody for at least three different hymns.

During the early Seventies, cartoonist Chester Gould made the ill-advised decision to modernize his “Dick Tracy” comic strip. He sent Tracy to battle crime in outer space, married Tracy’s son to a Moon Maiden, and introduced a hippie cop named Groovy Grove.

For the first 3 years after the Brooklyn Dodgers moved to Los Angeles, they played in the Coliseum with an insanely close and high left field wall. Outfielder Wally Moon’s home runs over the wall were nicknamed “Moon Shots”.

At least three additional Apollo moon missions (Apollo 18, 19, and 20) were planned, but never conducted. Some equipment from those canceled missions was used in the Skylab and Apollo/Soyuz missions, while other equipment wound up in museums.

A legend in western Massachusetts is that the five main characters on “Scooby Doo” represented the “Five Colleges” of the Amherst area. Fred and Daphne, the preppies, stood for Amherst College and Mount Holyoke respectively. Velma, the obvious lesbian, represented Smith. Shaggy was a stoner and therefore went to Hampshire College. Scooby, the largest character by far, and who was smarter than he looked, was a UMass dog.
