At 1,980 miles long the Yukon River is the 21st-longest river in the world and the 3rd longest in Noth America.

While Jack London was known for his adventure tales of the Yukon, he was also a strong supporter in his writings of labor unions, socialism, and the rights of workers. He experienced harsh working conditions first hand when as a young man in San Francisco he dropped out of school and went to work on the frontier.

London’s most successful theatre composer Andrew Lloyd Webber and Broadway’s Stephen Sondheim were both born on March 22nd–Lloyd Webber in 1948 and Sondheim in 1930. Therefore, this year former is now 68 and the latter 86.

Jack London State Historic Park is in the town of Glen Ellen, CA in Sonoma County. Glen Ellen is the town where London died at the age of 40 and is about 50 miles north of San Francisco.

Charles E. (Chuck) Williams settled in Sonoma, California, and opened his first shop as a hardware store in 1947. The 1896 _ **Plessy v. Ferguson** _ ruling confirmed the validity of the “separate but equal” concept which said that segregation, as long as the segregated classes were treated equally, was a valid means of keeping groups of people apart. John Marshall Harlan was the only dissenting justice.

Homer Plessy was arrested on 07 Jun 1892 in New Orleans LA for sitting in a first class rail car. Homer Plessy was an American Louisiana Creole of Color plaintiff who had a “fair” appearance and could easily pass for white. But he was an _ **octoroon** _, meaning he was 1/8th black.

and Judge John Howard Ferguson was the Louisiana judge who ruled that the Louisiana Railway Car Act of 1890 (The Separate Car Act), a law declaring that Louisiana rail companies had to provide separate but equal accommodations for white and non-white passengers, was constitutional.

“Shoofly Pie and Apple Pan Dowdy” was a song that made the Hit Parade in 1946, playing on desserts of Pennsylvania Dutch cuisine. Shoo Fly pie is a molasses pie , so named because it was so syrupy that flies had to be shooed away from it. Apple Pan Dowdy is a baked apple pastry resembling modern apple cobbler.

A set is _ **countably infinite** _ if its elements can be put in one-to-one correspondence with the set of natural numbers. In other words, one can count off all elements in the set in such a way that, even though the counting will take forever, you will get to any particular element in a finite amount of time.

One basic example of a countably infinite set is the set of integers.

Wisconsin is known as The Badger State not because of the presence of that species of animal, which is actually quite rare in Wisconsin. Early settlers, who came to Wisconsin to work in mines, had no available housing at the mine sites, to they burrowed out badger-like setts in hillsides to live in. Wisconsin was a frontier state them, and was the last state east of the Mississippi River to be admitted to statehood.

Wisconsin was admitted on 29 May 1848 and was the second to last state east of the Mississippi admitted to the Union. West Virginia was admitted on 20 June 1863 and was the last state east of the Mississippi admitted to the Union.

Several major cities including Washington D.C., Chicago and Los Angeles, have a major rail transport hub named Union Station. Nashville also had a Union Station which was closed and then converted into a hotel which used the original terminal building.
