The name _Ashtabula_ is derived from _ashtepihəle_, which means ‘always enough fish to be shared around’ in the Lenape language, an Algonquin language.

The Ashtabula River in northeastern Ohio is about 40 miles long and flows north to drain into Lake Erie. It is at the city named after the river, Ashtabula OH.

There is also a small town named Ashtabula in eastern North Dakota, about 70 miles west of Fargo. A nearby reservoir is called Lake Ashtabula.

Cool. I want to drive there too. I think they’re near to completing a paved road from Inuvik to Tuk, too. That will give year-round access to Tuk, and will bypass the ice road. Currently the only way to drive to Tuk is on the ice road from Inuvik, only during cold months.

In play: To drive to Point Roberts Washington you must pass theough Tsawwassen, British Columbia. The Tsawwassen (“tuh-WAHH-sin”) First Nation, or TFN, are Aboriginal Canadians who are neither Inuit nor Métis. There are currently 634 First Nations peoples across Canada.

Robert Rogers (1731–1795) was an American colonial frontiersman. During the French and Indian War Rogers raised and commanded the famous Rogers’ Rangers, trained for raiding and close combat behind enemy lines. He served with the British during the American Revolution, and ended up in England, where he died in poverty and probably due to his alcoholism.

Since a change in the constitutional law of Sweden in 1975, King Carl XVI Gustaf is no longer the commander-in-chief of the armed forces, as he once was under the 1809 Instrument of Government. However, he retains the honorary ranks of admiral in the Swedish Navy and general in the Army and Air Force.

The city of Cleveland was not named after President Grover Cleveland. It was namef after General Moses Cleaveland, 40 years before President Cleveland was born. But Grover Cleveland Alexander was named after the president – he was born during Cleveland’s first term of office. Later, Alexander would be played by Ronald Reagan in a biographical movie about the great Hall of Fame pitcher. So a future president would play a film role of a person named after a past president.

(ETA: ninja’d, so, changed 1967 to '67 below)
During WWII, Canada sheltered Princess Juliana of the Netherlands, and her daughters, from the Nazis. The Princess and her girls were kept safe from harm. During this time, in 1943, Princess Juliana’s daughter, Princess Margaret, was born in Ottawa’s Civic Hospital. The maternity ward was declared to be officially a temporary part of international territory, so that she would be born in no country and would inherit only her Dutch citizenship from her mother. How convenient.

In gratitude for their safe keeping, the Dutch royal family sent 100,000 tulip bulbs to Ottawa in 1945. In 1946, Princess Juliana sent another 20,500 bulbs, and she promised to send another 10,000 bulbs each year. In 1953, the first Canadian Tulip Festival was held, to display the tulips. Queen Juliana returned to celebrate the festival in [del]**1967[/del] '67** and Princess Margriet returned in 2002 to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the festival.

Today, the Canadian Tulip Festival in Ottawa, held annually in May, claims to be the world’s largest tulip festival. Over 1 million tulips are displayed, and over 500,000 people attend.
