The Cleveland Hills are a range of hills on the edge of the North York Moors in Yorkshire, England. Another area that was sometimes known as “Cleveland” in England was the Duchy of Cleves in Northern Germany, the home of Anne of Cleves, fourth wife of Henry VIII.

There is no historical evidence that Henry VIII thought Anne of Cleves, a politically-arranged wife whom he had not met before their betrothal, looked like a “Flanders mare”, with a face like a horse. His inability to get aroused with her led to the annulment of the marriage, still unconsummated.

_Faskh_ means “to annul” in Islam. It is a Sharia-granted procedure to judicially rescind a marriage.

A man does not need grounds to divorce his wife in Islam. To divorce, he can simply invoke _Talaq_ and part with the dower he gave her before marriage; or, he can invoke Lian doctrine in case of adultery, by bringing four witnesses who saw the wife committing adultery (which is almost impossible) or by self-certify and swear by Allah four times, and Sharia requires the court to grant divorce requested by the man.

Totally radical.

The musical Big River’s critically acclaimed[4] revival, directed and choreographed by Jeff Calhoun, opened on Broadway on July 24, 2003 at the American Airlines Theatre, where it ran for 67 performances. This production, staged by the Roundabout Theatre Company and Deaf West Theatre, was notable in that it featured both deaf and hearing actors performing together. About half the characters, including the leading role of Huck, were played by deaf or hard-of-hearing performers. For the 2003 Carols for a Cure CD, the cast recorded Silent Night.

The first recorded incident of being “tarred and feathered” was Captain William Smith of Norfolk, Virginia, suspected of informing on smugglers to British customs agents.

Speaking of being tarred and feathered, Mark Twain said “If it weren’t for the honor of the thing, I wouldn’t have enjoyed it at all”.

The “honour of the Crown” is an important doctrine in Canadian constitutional law, particularly in relation to the dealings that governments have with First Nations. The courts will always assume that the Crown intends to act honourably with First Nations, and will interpret any gaps or ambiguities in legal dealings accordingly.

On October 23, 1849, the first National Women’s Rights Convention was held in Worcester, Massachusetts, with Paulina Kellogg Wright Davis presiding, Both conventions emphasized social, civil, religious, and other rights of women (especially the right to vote—“suffrage”).

‘The Tremulous Hand of Worcester’ is the name given to a monk and scholar living at Worcester Priory in England in the first half of the thirteenth century. He made thousands of annotations in the Library’s oldest manuscripts, which all show a distinct tremble in the handwriting. A simpler name for him might be something like ‘the Shaky Writer’.

Mauritius has no official language. Although it was a British colony until independence and the constitution is written in English, the number of people who speak English as a first language is very small, and there are no English language broadcasting stations nor English daily newspapers. Most people speak French, Creole, or an Asian language of their country of ancestry…

On October 25, 1854, in the Crimean War of the 19th **century** , Lord Cardigan led his cavalry to disaster in the Battle of Balaclava. It was the final cavalry charge of the British and French allies, and stemmed from a misinterpreted order. The result was one of the most famous and ill-fated events in British military history—the Charge of the Light Brigade. The events were commemorated six weeks after the battle by publication of the poem “The Charge of the Light Brigade” by Alfred, Lord Tennyson.
