Around 400 people in New Brunswick, Canada, are involved in collisions with moose each year. Moose pose a significant risk of injury or death during a collision due to their 1000+ lb. weight, long legs and tendency to be knocked into the passenger area of vehicles. More people are injured or killed in moose-vehicle collisions in New Brunswick than in crashes with any other animal.

Most moose-vehicle collisions happen between May and October when moose leave the forest to escape the flies and heat and to feed on vegetation in ditches. The transportation department installs moose fencing along highways in areas where more than 15 collisions with moose have occurred in the last five years.

The Loyal Order of Moose was founded in Louisville, Kentucky, in the spring of 1888 by Dr. John Henry Wilson. Originally intended purely as a men’s social club, lodges were soon founded in Cincinnati, Ohio, St. Louis, Missouri and Crawfordsville and Frankfort, Indiana. The early order was not prosperous. Dr. Wilson himself was dissatisfied and left the order of the Moose before the turn of the century. In the fall of 1906 the Order had only the two Indiana lodges remaining. On October 27 of that year James J. Davis became the 247th member of the Order. He saw the Order as a way to provide a social safety net for a working class membership, using a low annual membership fee of $10–$15. After giving a rousing address to the seven delegates of the 1906 Moose national convention, he was appointed “Supreme Organizer” of the Order. Davis and a group of organizers set out to recruit members and establish lodges throughout the US and Canada. The Order grew to nearly half a million members in 1,000 lodges by 1912.

Elton John’s LP Caribou included the single "The Bitch is Back. Several radio stations in the United States and elsewhere refused to play the song because of the word “bitch”. For example, in 1976, the program director of WPIX-FM in New York told Billboard, "We will play records that are borderline suggestive records such as ‘Disco Lady’ by Johnny [sic] Taylor but we will not play ‘The Bitch Is Back’ by Elton John. We won’t play those types of records no matter how popular they get."Other stations did play it, but _bleeped_ the B-word.

During WWII the de Havilland Aircraft Company built a light bomber called the Mosquito. Made almost entirely of wood, the de Havilland Mosquito was nicknamed _The Wooden Wonder_, or “_Mossie_”. The first operational Mosquito flew in 1941, and the last were retired in 1963. About 30 Mosquitos survive today, and about 3 are airworthy. One flying example is at the Military Aviation Museum in Virginia Beach, VA.

_The Aquanauts_ was a short-lived TV series of the early 60s about two scuba divers in California. Halfway through the series, star Keith Larsen had to leave due to health reasons; the constant time in the water exacerbated sinus issues he was having. He was replaced by Ron Ely, and the format changed so that the ran a surf shop (probably because it required less shooting underwater). In response to the change, title was changed to _Malibu Run_

The Perseid meteor shower is happening right now. Each year, beginning in mid-July and peaking between 09 an 14 August, the earth passes through the debris field of comet Swift-Tuttle, and this debris creates the meteor shower. This comet was discovered in 1862 by astronomers Lewis Swift and Horace Tuttle.

“Natasha, Pierre & The Great Comet of 1812” is a musical based on a 70 page segment of Leo Tolstoy’s _War and Peace_. Josh Groban made his Broadway debut in the show’s November 2016 premiere, wearing a “fat suit” that made him look 60+ lbs heavier; Count Pierre Bezukhov, the character he plays, is described in the book as stout and heavily built.
