Davy Jones Locker is a seafarers term for the bottom of the sea. It was first referenced in print in a story by Daniel Defoe in 1726. But its origin is disputed.

I have no issue with trivia being about fictional facts and characters. However, a statement that real-world player X and team X will definitely win an upcoming game is speculation and not fact.

Back in play:

In 1703, Daniel Defoe was sentenced to three days in the pillory for writing a supposedly seditious political pamphlet. According to legend, instead of having dirt or rocks thrown at him as frequently happened to those pilloried, he was regarded as a hero by the crowd and was pelted with flowers.

The Sedition Act of 1918 gave the US government sweeping powers to prosecute anyone for speech and the expression of opinion that cast the government or the war effort in a negative light. It was repealed in 1920, but not until future presidential candidate Eugene V. Debs spent two years in prison for a conviction on sedition charges.

Codell, Kansas, is a small unincorporated town in the north-central part of the state. It is noted for having been struck by a tornado on May 20 in three successive years: 1916, 1917, and **1918**. Each year the tornado was stronger than the previous year, and the 1918 tornado, rated F4 on the Fujita scale, destroyed or damaged many businesses and homes. The small town never fully recovered from the devastation of the 1918 tornado.

**gkster** ’s point is a good one. Let’s keep it real, shall we?

In play (after a double-ninja!):

During _ **Kaiser** _ Wilhelm’s rule, in 1918 the first confirmed outbreak of the 1918 flu pandemic occurred at Camp Funston at Fort Riley, Kansas, in the north-central part of the state and only 140 miles west of Codell KS (gMap: [Google Maps](https://goo.gl/pvaFX6)). The pandemic lasted from roughly January 1918 to December 1920 that infected 500 million people around the world and resulted in the deaths of 50 to 100 million. Roughly 3-5% of the world’s population) died, making it one of the deadliest natural disasters in human history. It even killed people in _ **Tennessee** _.

Comment: Kansas in 1918 was _ **not** _ the place to be! 😃

Monument Valley, in southern Utah and northern Arizona, is one of my favorite places! I have passed through it 3-4 times over the years. I want to go back, in the summer, and be there in the early morning before the sun rises, to sit there in the dark, in the quiet, and just watch the sun rise. To watch the light change from faint civil twilight, watching the monuments change from dark shadows, to faint hints of their presence, to watch as the colors fill in and feel the warmth of the sun displace the chill of the night.
