First pets have included Johnson’s pet beagles Him, Her, and Little Beagle Johnson (LBJ), the current First Dog- a Portugese water spaniel named Bo, and while Abraham Lincoln’s dog [Fido](http://bp3.blogger.com/_n0kOLTsDBsw/RzfGbsGwxII/AAAAAAAAAC4/DI9prup2iLg/s1600-h/fido.jpg) never lived in the White House there were many dogs across the nation named after him. ---

The martial art of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu was largely popularized by the Gracie family, who were taught by Kodokan Judo black belt Mitsuyo Maeda; much of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu’s emphasis and curriculum comes from Judo’s _newaza_, ground techniques. ---

Texas and Vermont are the only two states after the original thirteen that were independent republics before joining the Union. ---

Japanese naval forces attacked the U.S. base at Pearl Harbor on Dec. 7, 1941. Hawaii was a U.S. territory at the time, and became a state in 1959, the last to join the Union. ---
