Currently, there are three private ranks in the US Army, Private E-1 with no rank shown on the uniform, Private E-2 who has one chevron, and Private E-3, whose rank is a chevron with a rocker underneath. ---

Cmdr. Spock was First Officer and Science Officer of the USS _Enterprise_, NCC-1701. Although the USS _Enterprise_, NCC-1701-D, apparently did not have a Science Officer, as such, Lt. Cmdr. Data usually functioned in that capacity. ---

The US Navy ranks of Lt Cmdr and Commander are equivalent, respectively, to the US Army and Marine Corps ranks of Major and Lieutenant Colonel. The Navy Captain is equivalent to the full-bird Colonel. ---

The oldest weapons still in service in the United States Armed Forces belong to Marines: the Mameluke Sword. Marine officers carry the Mameluke Sword, which was originally given to Lieutenant Presley O’Bannon in 1805 by a Mameluke chieftain in North Africa. Adopted in 1859, the NCO Sword is carried by Marine Noncommissioned Officers (NCOs) and Staff Noncommissioned Officers (SNCOs). Used for ceremonial purposes, the M1859 NCO Sword was bestowed to NCOs and SNCOs by the 6th Commandant, appointed on January 7, 1859, Colonel John Harris, in recognition of their leadership in combat. ---
