The CMC (Commandant of the Marine Corps) when I enlisted was Robert H. Barrow, and the CMC when I retired was CE Mundy.

Tom Bombadil does not appear in the _Lord of the Rings_ movie trilogy; however, the extended edition of _The Two Towers_ does contain a scene where Merry & Pippin are captured by Old Man Willow. Whereas it’s Treebeard (not Tom) who saves them, Treebeard does admonish the ancient, evil tree using Tom’s dialogue taken directly from the book.

The mandocello has eight strings in four paired courses, tuned in fifths like a mandolin, but is larger, and can be described to be to the mandolin what the cello is to the violin.

The balalaika is a Russian folk stringed musical instrument with a characteristic triangular body and typically strung with three strings. The body of the balalaika has tops of either spruce, evergreen, or fir; and backs made of three to nine wooden sections (usually maple).

Reece “Goose” Tatum, once a Negro Leagues baseball teammate of Satchel Paige, went on to be the first “Clown Prince of Basketball” as one of the original members of the Harlem Globetrotters. Some sources credit him with inventing the hook shot.

Marc Morial was mayor of New Orleans from 1994 to 2002. Two accomplishments of Morial’s administration dealt with professional sports: NBA basketball returned to the city after Morial orchestrated negotiations for the league’s Charlotte Hornets to relocate there. Secondly, following the September 11, 2001 attacks, Morial persuaded the organizers of a large automotive exposition to change its date so that Super Bowl XXXVI (held at the Louisiana Superdome) could be played one week later than originally scheduled, enabling the NFL to keep its post-season tournament fully intact.

Jerry West, who played in the NBA from 1960-1974, has several nicknames including “Mr. Clutch”, for his ability to make a big play in a clutch situation, such as his famous buzzer-beating 60-foot shot that tied Game 3 of the 1970 NBA Finals against the New York Knicks; “The Logo”, in reference to his silhouette being incorporated into the NBA logo; and “Zeke from Cabin Creek”, after the creek near his birthplace of Chelyan, West Virginia.
