The most drastic changes during the geologic formation of the Columbia River Gorge took place at the end of the last Ice Age when the Missoula Floods cut the steep, dramatic walls that exist today, flooding the river as high up as Crown Point. ---

Victoria Day in Canada usually falls on the third Monday in May. It is a holiday in nine of the provinces to commemorate the birthday of Queen Victoria. The exception is Quebec, where the holiday is the Journée des patriotes, to commemorate the rebellion of 1837 against Her Majesty’s rule. ---

Many American police departments, including that of Cleveland, Ohio, are phasing out their Crown Victoria patrol cars and replacing them with upgraded Dodge Challengers. ---

The Empire State Building was the tallest building in New York City, as well as the world, from April 30, 1931 to December 23, 1970. After September 11, 2001 it once again became the tallest building in New York City (though no longer the world) until One World Trade Center reached a greater height on April 30, 2012. ---
