She took the dollar from the jar, but instead of giving me a meaningful fortune reading, just gave some meaningless BS (e.g., the town where I was born) and parlor tricks (e.g., lit a candle with her eyes). When I pressed her, she finally gave a VERY cryptic fortune that I couldn’t make head or tail of. As I lay awake in bed that night, what did I come to understand? What shall happen to those who put their faith in fire? She showed me her treasures of paper and tin, and we played a game, only . . . What little defect (from my point of view) did that game have? Okay, an easy one already: I am going back to New Orleans. What will I wear there? ---

For you and all others who want to play and get even more right (after all, don’t we all get frustrated and start to lose interest where there are too many we can’t answer?) – I’m getting the hang of googling these. If you don’t recognize the source, then try to pick a line from the clue that looks like it might be more-or-less verbatim from the source song and google that – sometimes with quotation marks around it. I’ve been trying to include at least some such line in most of my clues, and I see most others are doing likewise. For example: Google for: lit a candle with her eyes and you’ll immediately find . . . Uh… pages of hits about rituals for lighting the Sabbath candles. (With your _eyes???_) Okay, try it with quotes around it… And you’ll find the answer immediately. Then, likewise, try “those who put their faith in fire” and you’ll get that immediately too. I’ve been getting some of these that way. It’s like doing crossword puzzles… Do you permit yourself to use a crossword dictionary, or is that somehow cheating? F’rinstance, I got the Alison answer that way, although I’ve never otherwise heard of this song before. # – Senegoid ---

I regard googling for the answer as cheating, although I have googled some of my questions to make sure I got the phraseology just right. (I am not always convinced the lyric sites are better than my memory, though.) ---

Surely you (or someone) should get this one though, that I put up a few posts back . . . After a series of increasingly lame excuses, why can Henry ultimately not fix the hole in the bucket?
