Holy shit, this is tricky. I can give answers to the questions, but I have no godly idea what other people will say. Well, I’ll give it a go. 1. Name an athlete known to have used illegal drugs. **Barry Bonds** 2. Name a famous battle of World War II. **Battle of Normandy** 3. Name any country with French as an official language except France. **Canada** 4. Name a living language in the Germanic language family other than German or English. **Dutch** 5. Name an English noun which came from Greek. **telephone** (at least, its pieces do) 6. Name one of the three components of the human mind according to Freud’s psychoanalytic model. **The ego** 7. For the first time, two Hispanic surnames are among the 10 most common in the United States. Name one of them. **Menendez** 8. Which can kill a person faster: total lack of sleep or total lack of food? **Total lack of sleep** (I have no idea; food takes about a month I think, I’d be surprised if total lack of sleep was some sort of consistently timed killer. Didn’t Cecil do a column on the ability to live without sleep?) 9. What is the most popular stimulant drug? **Caffeine** 10. Which musical genre indigenous to the United States has been the most influential? **Rock and roll** ---

Yep, that’s the idea. 😃 You seem to have done pretty well on a preliminary glance–I won’t be posting the scores until the game’s over, since I’m tired and I tried adding them up and ended up making a lot of mistakes, but it looks like a good entry. I’ve been pleasantly surprised by a lot–most, even–of the entries for this game. I’ve even had a little ignorance fought already. (Not that every single response was factually correct, but that’s OK.) I predict a lot of high scores. ---

Since **Taber** (sort of) asked which answers were incorrect, here they are: 1. Officially French-speaking country Morocco Vietnam French Guyana and French Polynesia are technically not sovereign nations, but they _are_ French territories, which is good enough as far as I’m concerned. 1. Germanic language Gaelic refers to three different languages that are all in the Celtic, not Germanic, family. Cyrillic is an alphabet, used for languages from several non-Germanic families. There is no Austrian language; Austria speaks German. French is a Romance language. Hungarian is an Ugric, not Germanic language. (This one’s pretty obscure.) Russian is a Slavic language. ETA: There is debate about whether or not Yiddish is a living language. 1. Garcia and Rodriguez are the two “correct” answers. 2. Sleep deprivation will kill you faster than a lack of food. 3. Caffeine is the most popular stimulant, but this question was open to interpretation. I don’t know which is the most popular prescription stimulant, the most popular illegal stimulant, etc. ---

You know what’s impressive?
