I think everyone who said “Monster Mash” is either just lazy or doesn’t know the answer. It’s not Rock 'n Roll. It’s nowhere NEAR Rock 'n Roll. It’s just a convenient answer.

Do you actually know what “Rock & Roll” is? Do you consider “Dion” and “Bill Haley and the Comets” Rock and Rollers?

The Monster Mash was a Rock & Roll song. It was just a silly novelty song, but it was a Rock & Roll song from 1962. It actually hit #1 at one point.

I see that there were two answers given that have Stevie Ray Vaughn as a rocker who died in a plane crash. I hope those don’t get counted because SRV died in a *helicopter * crash leaving the Alpine Valley concert venue in southern Wisconsin.
