My guess is that, because the furniture was acquired on a temporary basis (probably with a rental agreement and damage/cleaning deposits that the company would prefer to recover), it was felt that discouraging actual use of the furniture was the way to go. And the employee tasked with overseeing the display should NOT have assumed that ANY “transgressor” was perfectly healthy, but should have asked if said “transgressor” was in need of a place to sit down. ---

I’m presuming until it’s established otherwise that it’s because it was cleverly faux painted _fake_ furniture, which could break at any moment if someone actually sat in it, and that the signs were for the protection of the public. By running away, he placed the definitely Black woman in danger of injury, but saved himself and his company from the possibility of someone getting shirty with them over perceived racial bias. ---

It was apparently his job to protect the furniture, but he ran away. If you can’t work a trade show furniture and handle that part of the job, then you shouldn’t be there. ---

The story halfway through was that it was a love seat, with a no sitting sign on one cushion, and she sat on the other one. Isn’t that exactly the setup for social distancing, where you _can_ sit on the side with no sign? ---

Fair play let’s examine the Moderator note: **As the OP seems uninterested in actually exploring the issues he has raised, and in explaining what was actually going on at this event** Fair enough, however the only issue I was unwilling to delve into was the reason for Do Not Sit signs, btw not ONE poster gave one single good reason why that mattered, just vague “It will help me understand the issue better”. **; And as others seem determined to veer off topic;** And here is where it is the other posters fault. Note the word “determined”. This suggests deliberate action to ruin the thread. They deliberately tried to hijack the thread with demands to know the reason behind the signs. They claimed benevolent reasons for doing so, I don’t know maybe they were looking use that information against me? Maybe closet racists who hated that I showed preferential treatment to a black woman? Maybe just trolls? Who knows? It would have helped me to have a concrete reason for revealing that information but none was given. **it seems this discussion is over. So I’m closing the thread.** And I’m fine with that. I was maybe not my best effort, however in my defense I DID post it in the “Mundane” forum assuming this was the place for random thoughts, musings, etc. I did not put it in “Great Debates” which IMHO the Mod doing so maybe gave it more weight than it really deserved. At that point, I was ready to drop it and move on with my life, but then Riemann, like a petulant child, threw a temper tantrum because he didn’t get what he wanted, the explanation behind the signs, and came here to whine and now here we are with more ugliness I didn’t want to be part of. ---
