A simpler and better method is to put the link in a code block. e.g. `https://boards.straightdope.com/t/drdeth-is-a-fuckin-jackass/933971/417` Then it’s clear that it’s not directly linked, and that you have to copy and paste the link to go to it. With BigT’s method, people mouse-over the link and then wonder why they can’t click on it. To insert a link that way, you also have to remember the html code for a special character.   To put a link in a code block, all you need to do is _ **put a backtick before and after the link.** _ On an American keyboard, it’s this key: [![](https://www.computerhope.com/cdn/keyboard/tilde.jpg) ](https://www.computerhope.com/cdn/keyboard/tilde.jpg) ---
