Once again I see evidence supporting the notion that [the failure mode of clever is “asshole.”](https://whatever.scalzi.com/2010/06/16/the-failure-state-of-clever/) Specifically, omenran attempting to be humorous and instead getting a bunch of people to wonder aloud if they’re an asshole. ---

So sad. I was really looking forward to his twisting around to explain why it was a Terrible Very Bad Thing for Biden to order the mystery floating object to be shot down over Alaska after his arguments that Biden should have ordered last weeks Chinese balloon to be shot down over Alaska, before it was even seen. It would have been amusing. ---

You would have waited in vain. Explaining himself (or anything) never was his modus operandi, but always drive-by snipes, non sequiturs and hijacks. I can’t remember any post of him that was longer than one (usually moronic and/or vile) sentence. If you read his banning announcement thread, you see that all his warnings were for either trolling, hijacking or being a jerk. It’s a wonder he survived that long. ---

His epitaph here should be: “Will not be missed”. If he ever contributed a useful post, I haven’t seen it. Sometimes I’m saddened to see someone banned because they did have useful or informative things to say on occasion. This is not one of those. Not one of the super-disruptive ones, either. Remember FX\_Mastermind? There was a sort of virtual party over in ATMB when he was finally banned. Yeah, this one is more like the annoying mosquito that gets into the bedroom when you’re trying to sleep. It’s nice to finally smack it, but you’re not going to get up and pop a bottle of champagne to celebrate. ---

For some reason, I’ve never worked up any animosity toward our resident cephalopod. It may be because I don’t tend to frequent the waters in which it swims. Or it may be that I’m just of a simple mind and am charmed by the monocle and top hat. But if its inky bloviations cause offense, I’ll be the first to let everyone know. Although it does occur to me that I haven’t had calamari in a while (a cousin to the octopus in the _cephalopoda_ class, I realize) but when they’re available they can be very good, and they don’t bloviate right-wing politics when they’re breaded and fried. ---
