But the thing is, someone who uses an acronym clearly thinks it isn’t unknown. Or they wouldn’t use it. So advice not to use unknown acronyms isn’t very useful. People often use words they assume others know. And sometimes they’re wrong. Someone earlier didn’t know what the word “trock” meant. So they just asked. And they got an answer. I think that worked better. k9b clearly thought his acronym was well known. ---

We never had a TLA one. But you should have seen how confused I was when I first joined the board and people kept mentioning SMG. (typically talking about Sarah Michelle Gellar and not a Submachine Gun) You know it is funny, even in threads talking about the military or the Navy I usually explain the acronym the first time I use it. For instance, I failed to take to heart NAVY. Never Again Volunteer Yourself.
