I gave up on that thread a while back because of the anti-labor vitriol, so I appreciate the summary on how things have been going.

I wasn’t talking about their position. I was talking just about seriously posting a shittily inaccurate ChatGPT reply into a quite serious, even contentious, discussion as though it meant anything.

That studio use of AI is one of the much-discussed issues under dispute in this and the parallel SAGA strike makes it even more trollish.

Although I must admit it did lead to BB’s hilarious pwn of both WolfPup and NoveltyBobble, by posting the ChatGPT Morning Prep SOP, so not a total waste.

That WP then berates BB for posting from ChatGPT was just the \*chef’s kiss\* of the whole episode. Talk about your epic whooshes…

Yeah, that was one of those had-to-see-it-to-believe-it moments. I admit that when I first saw BB’s ChatGPT post, I did a double take, then a triple take, before figuring out his dual points. They were very cleverly made.

WP’s response is part of why I don’t think his use of ChatGPT was deliberate trolling. I think that _is_ his A-game.

The epic whoosh here is on you. I “berated” BB for using ChatGPT? 🤣 Why do you think my comment “seriously?” was in quotes, followed by a smiley? It mimicked and parodied **Miller** ’s response to my original ChatGPT post.

There’s a vast pile of other lies and inaccuracies here but I don’t really see the point of getting into a shit-flinging contest.

I was referring to your _later_ post, in response to a _different_ ChatGPT post by BB:

Your response **[here](https://boards.straightdope.com/t/writers-guild-of-america-goes-on-strike-5-2-23/983448/377)** was presented as a genuine response from ChatGPT. If it was just something you made up as an attempt at sarcasm, at the very least it violated board ethics about intentional misrepresentation.

Yep, sooo not taking it seriously, there…
Does anyone _else_ buy this transparent ass-covering, that this is parody on WP’s part?

Ah, the old “that’s not what I meant” gambit! The “Seriously?” comment was very obviously a parody, except apparently to you. This new point is about something completely different. If you just made something up, then claimed that it came from ChatGPT, that’s dishonest. BB said that it was a direct cut-and-paste, and I have no reason to doubt them, so it was apparently the result of a request for that form of parodic reply. WTF does that have to do with your original snark, “WP then berates BB for posting from ChatGPT”?

ChatGPT has virtually no relevance here. You conveniently forgot to mention that I had provided two credible cites earlier about the role of writers. As it turned out, neither of us appreciated that writing for episodic television is usually quite different than writing for film, but in the context of screenwriting, the ChatGPT description exactly corroborated the two previous cites, including an extensive one intended as a guide for novice screenwriters. So the whole ChatGPT snark was just irrelevant recreational ridicule. It’s also false to claim that “it’s not a search engine” (not you, but **Miller** ) as the exact same LLM technology is being used to enhance Bing chat and has tremendous potential as an intelligent tool for information retrieval.

You have this ridiculous habit of telling me I “conveniently forgot to mention” some niggling detail you mentioned at some point, as if I’m dutybound to respond to every stupid thing you say. I’m not, wolfpup. You don’t pay me to be your sounding board, and you couldn’t pay me enough.

At least once, you exercised this nonsense by **quoting me quoting you** and then chastising me for not including in the quote **exactly what I had included in the quote**. It was beyond self-parody.

And then there’s this case. I “conveniently forgot to mention” cites that **you agree** weren’t relevant to the discussion we were having? Are you fucking serious? I didn’t “conveniently forget to mention” them, they were off-point, and I did you the courtesy of not mocking you for that.

I’m gonna “conveniently forget to mention” the rest of your post here, fair warning. The fact that I don’t make fun of you for doubling down on the search engine bullshit is a deliberate choice on my part, not a memory lapse.

Well, pardon me all to hell, but when you say:

>
> his proud use of ChatGPT as a rebuttal to actual writers on the role of writers in television productions

that sure reads like I’m using ChatGPT as a primary source. Which is not a “niggling detail”. It’s a gross misrepresentation for the purpose of recreational ridicule.

You did the same thing misrepresenting my position on Martin Luther King, “his insistence that Martin Luther King would agree with him about the garbageworker strikers being thugs”. Show me where I ever said that about MLK. I said that his cause was far greater and not comparable to the kinds of relatively mundane union issues we typically see in strikes. It was you, in fact, who deceptively compared MLK’s participation in the Memphis garbage strike with the local garbage strike I was criticizing, failing to tell us what the Memphis strike was really about and why MLK got involved. Once the facts were established, it was clear that in Memphis, as ever, MLK was opposing profound racial injustices that were in no way comparable to the relatively petty union grievances I was criticizing. It was a blatant example of false equivalence … by you. But I’m the dishonest one! The irony, it burns.

Again, you have no idea what you’re talking about. Yes, profound racial injustices were a key part of what he was addressing. But his work with the Memphis Sanitation Strike was part of his Poor People’s Campaign.

[From his autobiography, in the chapter about the Poor People’s Campaign](https://kinginstitute.stanford.edu/publications/autobiography-martin-luther-king-jr/chapter-31-poor-peoples-campaign):

> [@](#):
>
> _The time has come for a return to mass nonviolent protest. Accordingly, we are planning a series of such demonstrations this spring and summer, to begin in Washington, D.C. They will have Negro and white participation, and they will seek to benefit the poor of both races._
> …
> We called our demonstration a campaign for jobs and income because we felt that the economic question was the most crucial that black people, and poor people generally, were confronting. There was a literal depression in the Negro community. When you have mass unemployment in the Negro community, it’s called a social problem; when you have mass unemployment in the white community, it’s called a depression.
> …
> We have, through massive nonviolent action, an opportunity to avoid a national disaster and create a new spirit of class and racial harmony.

King, especially near the end of his life, was addressing the brutal injustice of economic inequality alongside the brutal injustice of racial inequality.

You seem to read barely enough to convince yourself that you were correct to begin with, and then stop reading. It’s a profoundly anti-intellectual habit you have.

Do you feel that either the profound racial injustices or the related deep economic injustices MLK was protesting in Memphis (the example you specifically brought up) were in any way equivalent to the Toronto garbage workers’ demands related to seniority and the cross-year banking of sick days? Would you like to back up your claim that “Martin Luther King would agree with [me] about the garbageworker strikers being thugs”, or can we just conclude that you engage in dishonest hyperbole?

>
> Happy to give my take on the answer to that. What would happen is that the rich would get very slightly richer, in most cases negligibly so. The less privileged classes would suffer existential crises affecting their health, their families, and their entire lives. In the US plutocracy in particular, where the gap between rich and poor is one of the biggest in the civilized world and growing ever larger, the widening gap would create suffering and social instability, driving up crime of all kinds, both violent and non-violent. Racists would come out of the woodwork and blame the social unrest on immigration and brown people.
>

I don’t know what the fuck to do with this paragraph, or how you think it’s responsive. I think I’ll “conveniently forget to mention it” rather than point out what incoherent gibberish it is.

Edit: Oh, I searched this thread to figure out how you fucked up. You want me to back up my claim, not that “Martin Luther King would agree with [you] about the garbageworker strikers being thugs”, but that **you engaged in a bizarre "** insistence that Martin Luther King would agree with [you] about the garbageworker strikers being thugs." You left out a crucial clause.

So, sure: you called the garbageworker strikers thugs. When I showed that MLK was killed in the midst of a campaign to support striking garbage workers and that he almost certainly would have supported another campaign of striking garbage workers, you spent ridiculous amounts of time explaining why they were different. Why spend so much time except to suggest that MLK would have agreed with you?

> [@wolfpup](#):

Oh, for sure. If someone tells me that they have no problem with Christians, and then they proceed to post about all sorts of shit Christians do, posting a lot of frankly wrong nonsense in the process, I’m going to think they’re full of shit. The reason they’re saying that they support Christians is because they know that nobody will believe that based on everything else they say.

Look. You’re allowed to admit when you’re wrong. You’re allowed to do it full stop, without being like, “I may have been less than diplomatic, BUT WHY WON’T ANYONE PRAISE ME FOR SAYING THAT???” If you just say something like, “Wow, I fucked up about the WGA picket of _Evil_, thanks for educating me on that,” it’ll go a long way toward establishing a reputation as an honest poster.

Or you can continue in this vein.

EDIT: Or maybe not. This is the troll thread, and I’m engaging in the cardinal sin, of using this thread to engage with the subject of the thread. Not that I think you’re a troll, I just think you’re bringing your petulant, dimwitted D game. Nevertheless, I’ll make this my last word here.

Tzatzki

Ingredients

```
1½ cups plain 2% Greek yogurt
1 medium English or hothouse cucumber, seeded, coarsely grated
and squeezed as dry as possible (about 1 cup)
2 small garlic cloves, minced
2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
Scant ¾ teaspoon salt
¼ teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
2 tablespoons finely chopped fresh mint
```

Combine all ingredients in a medium bowl and mix until well combined. Taste and adjust seasoning if necessary (I often add a generous pinch of sugar to balance the flavors). Cover and chill until ready to serve. Before serving, drizzle with a bit of olive oil and sprinkle with fresh mint, if desired.
