Eh, I flag plenty, and get a good mix of “you’re right, there’s something wrong” and “thanks for flagging, but you’re jumping the gun”. But the issue you quoted happens most with those later night / holiday hour posts when the mods are scarce on the ground. And of course, I can’t lie in bed with some zinger singing in my brain all night even though deep down I probably know better… I mean, it’s _being right on the internet_, no greater temptation. ---

A 17-year-old girl texts while driving, gets sentenced to thirty days in juvie for this first offense, and her reaction is to join the Straight Dope and to start a thread in the correct forum (MPSIMS) telling us that she really screwed up and must now pay the price. Seems legit. ---

Completely. Yep. /s At least it wasn’t cut and pasted from another site. This one is special for the SDMB. We operate under the assumption it is legit but we’re watchful. We do some fairly basic checks unless the poster causes problems. ---

And this 17yo took the time to compose an essay with well-constructed sentences, paragraph breaks, no slang or abbreviations, as though she were writing a college application? It’s obviously fake, but I’m just not sure what the point of it is. ---
