Seriously, why are you folks treating BorealisCooper’s thread about Government Waste as anything but bait? It’s built entirely on false assumptions, the blame game, and whataboutism. I mean, we all like to poke the troll sometimes (not 100% sure they’re a troll all the time, though all signs point to YES, but they’re trolling the _HELL_ out of that thread), but dayum, you’ve feeding them big time. ---

I saw who created the thread and noped right out. Didn’t even want to peruse the thread to add one digit to its view count. Srsly, obvious troll is obvious. I had been vaguely curious if anything useful or interesting came out of it despite my absolute refusal to read it. But it sounds like the thread went about the way I expected and I didn’t miss anything? ---

Yesterday (Wednesday 11th February 2025), a post appeared in either ATMB or SF, from a user saying they’d been locked out of their account and asking for an account to be reset. They’d had to create a new account ( **UserName1** ). Apparently their original account ( **UserName** ) had their old email address so they couldn’t reset their password… IIRC, **What\_Exit** replied telling them to contact **engineer\_comp\_geek** to resolve the issue… (I thought maybe it was a user who hadn’t logged in for some time, but **UserName** had been active just the day before.) That thread has now disappeared ! Was it a hacking attempt ? ---

The thread is probably gone as it was effectively a temporary username. Once the original account was fixed, **engineer\_comp\_geek** probably deleted the “new” account and the thread went with it. BTW: I didn’t tell them to contact ECG, I just paged him for them. ---

Maybe, but as an example spammers threads get deleted with the spammer all the time. So it worked out more like that. When users ended up with two profiles after the change-over to Discourse, **ECG** would merge the accounts, but in this case, not worth the extra work. I’ve never did one like this. I think I’ve only done one name change which is very different and simpler. I mainly do the requested title changes with @puzzlegal and I also delete the spammers and process the Trocks. ---
