But you have to admit that the reality where Steve Biko became President of South Africa _is_ the better reality.

**Captain Renault** : What in heaven’s name brought you to Casablanca?
**Rick** : My health. I came to Casablanca for the waters.
**Captain Renault** : The waters? What waters? We’re in the desert.
**Rick** : I was misinformed.

In fairness, I think when people back then said they were going somewhere for “the waters”, they meant that particular springs or lakes in that area were reputed to have medicinal properties. So a desert wouldn’t have “waters” in that sense, even if it was on the ocean shore.

Exactly. The ocean would not be considered good for a person’s health, at least the ocean at Casablanca isn’t any different than any other part of the ocean.

It’s hard to think of a reason beyond rank bigotry that would lead to him making such a stupid claim about a woman of color like Harris.

He is the trolliest troll not yet banned.

He has been suspended before though.

I was hoping it would lead to something more permanent but it didn’t. Yet.

100% agreed on this. His posts are invariably insanely antagonistic and he seems to be constantly spoiling for a fight in P&E. He seems to stay just on the right side of the board rules because he takes care not to single out certain posters, couching his language in generalities rather than engaging directly with other people. Credit I suppose, as that does take a certain amount of discipline.

Credit to other posters though, as well, as everyone seems to be clear on what his intentions are and I have not seen anyone really bite on his troll bait in the wrong forums. Every time he posts I keep expecting whatever thread he’s in the spiral out of control, but it never does.

I don’t really have anyone currently active blocked on my account, (I generally don’t like blocking posters even when I think it might be a good idea because it just makes threads harder to follow), but there’s a handful of posters who’s posts I will skip past and only read other posters responses to them. This poster is subject number one on that list.

I think they were just going on beach vacations to relax, but needed a better excuse than that for plausible deniability. Sort of like a large portion of “medical marijuana” users.

Drinking “the waters” for medicinal effect is (or at least was) a long-established practice in European spas like Baden-Baden. There is a Maigret novel set in a spa town in France, where he was taking the waters, I think from the 1930s. I believe they also did it in Bath (England) as mentioned in at least one Jane Austen novel. And I believe it was part of the various treatments at that spa where Agatha Christie turned up after disappearing for 10 days (in the 1920s). The various kinds of mineral waters were supposed to have somewhat different effects on such things and liver ailments and gout, which otherwise were difficult to treat in those times.

I actually live near one of those (in the US). My primary school was literally across the road from the park.

If memory serves, the main character in Fellini’s _8 1/2_ went to the spa where the film is set “for the waters.”

The waters at Hot Springs Arkansas were/are touted for their beneficial qualities for both external and internal use. There are several public spring-fed drinking fountains where visitors can fill up their bottles or jugs to take home.

The very term “spa” comes from the name of the town of **[Spa, Belgium - Wikipedia](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spa,_Belgium)**. Which is, no surprise, famous since Roman times for its supposedly curative mineral springs.

Yeah, it very clearly is a bit that he’s doing, theorizing that if he claims to be anti-Trump people will be more open to his lies about Democrats.

I’d been thinking about him and his absurd caricature representations of Democrats as a right-wing equivalent of Der\_Trihs (albeit espousing much more pernicious ideas). I figured that maybe ZS wasn’t being modded for his behavior for the same reason that DT isn’t modded for his.

But I just saw that DT is suspended for very similar behavior in P&E and has been warned 5 times in the past year. Maybe ZS will receive similar attention?

I don’t know if it’s worth opening an ATMB thread on the subject.
