So, Season 3 starts tonight. I guess the title tells us what new creature we’ll encounter this season. Anyone still watching? I give this one about a B-, for HBO, but it’s good enough to keep watching. I gave up on _The Pacific_ about half-way through. ---

Thanks for the reminder! I didn’t much care for S2 but I’ll stick around for awhile, see how it goes. _The Pacific_ didn’t grab me. My fault though. I kept comparing it to _Band of Brothers_ – should have let it stand on its own. I watched all of two episodes and (the first and the last) and bits of a few others. ---

I’ll be watching however I’m already disappointed in the casting for the role of Alcide Herveaux. While Joe Manganiello is a fine looking man, he’s nothing like Charlene Harris’ description of Alcide in the books (and yes I know the series is only loosely following the books.) Alcide is pretty much my favorite character in the books and a lot of that has to do with how I perceived him to look. Joe Manganiello is just about opposite of what I pictured in my mind. We’ll see if he grows on me as the season continues. If S3 does follow the books, get ready because “we’re goin’ to Jackson…” ---

I’m looking forward to it. S2 was decent, it just dragged on a bit with the MaryAnn B.S. But the introductin of Alcide should give it a boost. Maybe after the abysmal S3 (or is it 4?) of Big Love, I thought True Blood was better than the current HBO average. ---

Jason and the chick with the V addiction was S1 – Jason and the preacher’s wife was S2. I’ve forgotten most of the characters’ names. There’s Sookie and Jason, and Sookie’s vampire lover (Bob? George? Lance?), and Sookie’s black girl friend, and the gay black guy (Darnell? no, that’s the guy from My Name is Earl), and the shapeshifter guy who has a crush on Sookie. How’d last season end? Sookie’s BF was kidnapped by somebody, but is anybody else in danger? I’m not sure I even saw the ending. I was out of town with no HBO for most of August. ---

Word on the street is more Pam this season - she even got her own promo poster! I’ve only read summaries of the books on wikipedia, but I am interested to see how they are going to handle: Lorena breaking up Bill and Sookie for good Glad to be rid of Maryann. I have a friend who is just starting S2, and I’m thinking of telling him I won’t watch it with him because I don’t want to relive Maryann’s arc. ---

Thanks for the explanation. And here’s another question. What’s the vampire hierarchy? I thought that Eric as sheriff was subordinate to the vampire Queen of Louisiana, and no one was above her, but she deferred to the Magister. So does he out-rank her? ---

One thing was that I had a problem telling some of the characters apart- a bunch of skinny white kids in helmets start to look alike after a while. ---

I think that was the whole plan, and it worked. 😛 ---

We actually ordered HBO yesterday for the first time ever for the sole purpose of catching this. Have not yet seen S2 - have both S1&2 on hold at the library. When they started the dream seq, my wife and I both said “Wow, looks like we have quite a bit of catching up to do!” 😛 That Atlantic City series this fall with Steve Buscemi looks pretty sweet! ---

I’ll grumble about how much I dislike this series, but I let the episodes pile up on the DVR anyway, and then I’ll get bored one night and watch them. More of Eric and Bill (naked is fine) and much less of Jason would suit me. I’ll be glad to see more of Pam, but I hope I like TV Alcide more than I liked Alcide in the books.
