So what did everyone think of the episode? I thought most of it was pretty good, but the evil baby subplot is starting to annoy me.

I think more than any previous season, they’re going for a “damn, these people are really fucking fucked up” kind of vibe.

Poor Pam? Poor Fiona Shaw (the witch) when Pam regains her composure and comes back to eviscerate her.
I was surprised to see Katharine Helmond as “Granmama” Belleflour. She’s one of my all-time favorite performers, glad to see her still getting work. Hope we see more of her.

And the revelation concerning Bill & Portia was fairly ingenious, if “squicky.”

- I kind of like the evil baby sub-plot!
- Pam has been a one-note, over the top bitch for far too long and deserves this little setback (but she’ll be all right).
- I am vastly relieved Bill found out Portia is his kin and is cutting off the relationship. (BTW, when Bill was looking for Eric at Sookie’s house, I’m surprised he didn’t use some kind of super vampire powers to detect his prey. When reading the old family bible, Portia said Bill could read the faded writing with his super vampire eyesight. And he couldn’t detect Eric’s presence in Sookie’s house??)
- Yay, Jason!
- Is anyone at all surprised Tommy was attacked by Joe Lee in a setup? Why didn’t he escape by turning into a fly or bird? I found the dogfighting storyline the worst thing about the whole show (skipped right over those parts) and am disgusted it’s coming up again.
- Sam, Luna, and her daughter brought the show right to a halt. Yes, I see a jealous werewolf babydaddy is going to make trouble in the future, but that bit of the show really dragged.
- I don’t have any problem with the multiple storylines, but I can see why this irritates other viewers, jumping from situation to situation every two minutes.

Better than last week’s episode, but that’s a pretty low bar. Drunk Eric is kinda funny, but I agree that Bill should have been able to detect his presence at Sookie’s house (smell, or something). Best line of the night-- when Andy said he wanted a Red Bull.

One other thing that has irked me. The black panther people. I think a black panther is a rare, beautiful, classy animal and don’t think the human form matches up. It seems more likely they would transform into wild boars, or possums, or nutria, a lower-class beast, if you will. But I suppose that’s what happens to an isolated, inbred group.

Silver chain stops the shifters and vampires etal.

If that werewolf baby daddy is Dawson, I am going to be SERIOUSLY pissed. He’s pretty much the only minor character from the books that had any redeeming value at all who they haven’t either killed off prematurely, turned into low-life scum, or both.

Well, in the books they’re not actually black panthers. They’re what’s colloquially known as “panthers” in that area, which is either mountain lions or bobcats. I disremember which, but I’m thinking it was bobcats.

Yes, you are right. I even commented on this in an earlier thread where someone asked “why panthers”. There aren’t any black panthers AFAIK in the U.S. but maybe the producers thought they were more photogenic for TV than plain old mountain lions or bobcats.

I know the silver/vampire thing has been well established, but has the show ever shown this to be the case for shifters? Or does it come from the book? (not complaining if it did, I mean, it’s not like you mentioned the slope of a floor or anything)

How dare they stretch credulity by introducing a black panther, which scientists have concluded do not exist in the US. What will the writers foist upon us next?

Was it silver that stopped him or just a really well placed choker that a)was ‘trained’ into him and b)kept him from being able to focus on shifting.

It didn’t look particularly silver to me - but then they retconned the whole ‘what happened when sookie met bill’ in the past three episodes.

I am speculating but he could have turned into a bird if he was able to. I think it was the silver. The old man has serious nasty plans for the kid. How many times will his mother turn on him before he figures it out? i suppose Sam will save him again.

I agree. Do we really think Sam’s illiterate, trailer dwelling family is going to have that much silver.

I think it was just a choke-collar, and the kid couldn’t concentrate to shift.
