> Oh, and I will second **Unauthorized Cinnamon** ’s observation that in the books there never did seem to be a good reason for why Bill took off with Lorena. It was never really explained, beyond, “He has a weird fascination with her.” OK, and…?

I think it was more “You HAVE to come when your maker calls you.” The books have actually been pretty explicit about that.

I don’t get to watch this every week (no HBO), but I like the changes they’ve made from the books (especially the Godric changes), with the exception of Maryanne. She’s boring, she makes Tara boring, she even makes the idea of sex with a dude who looks like Eggs boring, and I’m over it.

I think those of you who have read the books are going to have to adjust to the idea that _the television series is going to differ_. The series is based on the books, but it’s not going to slavishly follow the plots of them.

No kidding? Wow. I had no idea.

…in seriousness, of course everybody knows that the TV series isn’t going to follow the books precisely. But sometimes it is interesting to discuss the differences between the books and the TV show. Nobody is bitching nonstop about how the TV show suxx0rs because it’s not slavishly following the book.

Erm… I think we’re adjusted. In fact, I think I just said that I find most of the changes favorable thus far, with one exception, which I dislike not because it’s different from the book, but because it’s _boring_.

> Wait a minute, did Luke show up in the church all dressed to bomb, or in the hotel lobby (or bar, or whatever it was) where all the vampire were meeting?

It was the house that the Dallas vampires had been meeting in (which was apparently Godric’s house) and many vampires were there to celebrate his return.

Luke showed up and turned himself into silver shrapnel.

I think it was Godric’s house, plain and simple.

I think Godric was at the FotS in order to try and talk peace to them. Didn’t work very well apparently.

Oh and I loved the scene between Eric and Jason where he dresses Jason down for his past crimes. He definitely had that Old wisened Fatherly,‘I’ve got mah eye on ya son.’, Sheriff wanting to put the fear of God into the boy but wanting him to be free and go make something productive of himself.

When Jason said he wanted to talk to Bill, I thought he was going to confess to his role in Eddie’s death. (Eddie was the vampire played by Stephen Root who was being bled by Amy and Jason.)

The problem is not what has changed–the problem is that the orgy/murder storyline was pretty stupid and weak in the books, and it’s somehow become even stupider and weaker and more boring in the show. Every week we get about 15 minutes of screen time for this story, and about 2 minutes of actual plot advancement, and people are sick of it dragging on and on and _on_. I’d be more patient if I thought there was a chance of seeing Eric show up dressed in spandex like in the book, but that really doesn’t seem likely, so I’m ready for Maryanne to get the hell off my screen. Now.

That was my initial thought, too.

Huh…so crazy boy gone and blowed himself up good in a house of vampires, eh? Well, that’s a lot more intriguing than what I was initially picturing–him going into the presumably empty church sanctuary to do himself in.

Better not kill Godric, though. He’s pretty darn interesting, and helps make up for the vacuum of suck that is Maryann.

Were Bill, Eric, and Jason still outside at this point?

Bill is outside, I think Eric is not far from Sookie, and while Crazy told Jason to leave, he was still standing a couple of feet away, last we saw him.

In a closeup of Luke right before the end, there were little hand carved wooden bullets (whole cartridges really, which is kind of silly if you think about it) stuck into the links of much of the chain.

Add me to the list of people who have had ENOUGH of the Marianne storyline.

It’s not that I resent that Ball is not following the book; I am utterly enchanted with the Jessica/Hoyt storyline. Who’d’ve thought that weekly orgy scenes could be so darned tedious?

I thought the tree-sodomy line was funny, though. (Was that the guy who used to be on “The Nine”?) I’m surprised, though, that tree sodomy would be considered a crime. Indecent exposure, maybe, but tree sodomy?

Marianne is EVIL.
Not because she forces people into indulgent sensual acts against their will.

Not because she sometime sacrifices people

Not because she’ll bake your heart into a souffle/pot pie and have your friends eat it

Not even because she’s generally a selfish bitch.
It’s because she tosses away birthday presents without warning. That’s unforgiveable.

Well, sodomy is more broadly defined as any sexual penetration other than vaginal intercourse with a human. Oral, anal, critters, trees, it all counts in some jurisdictions. Before the anti-sodomy laws started being struck down, it was technically illegal to blow someone or to get blown in several states.

I love Godric. Interesting character, and the first pro-vampire character to admit that, yeah, vampires _are_ scary and threatening to humans, and can be incredibly vicious.

I’m also sick of Marianne. What, exactly, was the point of her making Eggs and Tara into cannibals? So their eyes could go all black while they start beating each other and fucking? Shit, there are plenty of people who would happily do that without any coercion. And her orgies are lame. They’re just a bunch of heterosexual pairs fucking outdoors within view of each other. I could hold a more interesting orgy than that.

Also, did it bother anyone else that when Tara cut into the souffle, it began oozing _lots_ of bright red liquid blood, despite having been cooked, and this failed to set off any alarm bells for Tara? Someone serves me a souffle that starts pouring blood when I cut into it, I’m gonna ask what’s up with that.

In the days of old
When the Knights were bold
And women weren’t invented
They drilled holes
In telegraph poles
And had to be contented.
