vying for best quote of the night: “You’re just a scared man in saggy underpants with no discernible life skills whatsoever,” or “It’s funny. I never really thought I was smart enough to get depressed, but here I am.” I have to give the edge to Jason Stackhouse getting philosophical whilst lounging in his boxers.

I enjoy Tara much more when she’s gotten hella pissed off and is ready to fight for her life.

Smell ya later, Lorena, you psychotic cow. Your accent was second only to Bill Compton’s in grating. (P.S. Tara, did you note what Sookie said about how you can tell a vampire is dead by the way they are red Jell-O? Franklin did not turn into Jell-O. Watch your back.)

The dog fighting scene upset me terribly, specifically, the dogs being shot for losing. I sobbed and flung myself onto the floor where my dog was peacefully napping, and forced her to endure belly rubs and hugs. It happens every day and no lusciously naked Sam Merlotte is there to break it up.

Russell Edgington is so damned bad-ass that I’m rooting for him at this point.

Yeah, Jason’s line is great - he’s actually been consistently cracking me up the whole damn season.

On a related note, but not really related to this episode, per se… Is it just me, though, or does Crystal look unsettlingly like Sookie for a love interest for Jason?

I kind of suspect she realized that, from the look on her face when Sookie said that.

The Magister didn’t turn to jello either but then the show ended seconds after he was decapitated. I’m sure we haven’t seen the last of Franklin though.

This was a good episode, though I am a bit grumpy about the whispering in Erik’s ear by Sookie’s cousin. We had better find out what she said before the season’s over; I don’t like being teased!

They showed his head hitting the ground and turning to jello, I thought?

I’m pretty sure the last shot is his head going all jello-y.

Either that, or vampire heads are even more fragile than their chest cavities, 'cuz that thing popped like a water balloon full of blood.

This whole thing about “the Authority” is interesting to to me. What is it, exactly. _Who_ is it? I’m guessing it has something to do with Nan Flannigan and that she is way more badass than anybody knows, imncluding Russell (who was awesome in this episode).

Funny how I never liked Lorena, but I was still kind of sad to see her get staked. I ultimately felt sorry for her.

Although (watching a later reairing of the episode), I have to say Jason’s best line in the episode is ‘I told you, that shit [V] is behind me! I just wanna buy some meth!’

Russell is 300 times more interesting an antagonist than the Maenad or Rene the Serial Killing Faux Cajun were, and while I didn’t like the actor at first he’s really grown on me. Plus, anybody who kills the Magister can’t be all bad. (I always love scenes in books and movies and TV where arrogant officials who abuse their power comes up against somebody who doesn’t give a fuck who they’re with [be it the government, the Mafia, the Third Reich, etc.] and reminds them that “the [Authority] ain’t here, are they?”.)

Was tonight’s episode shorter than usual? Seemed to end a few minutes short.

Why didn’t Bill react to the sun more?

Apparently vamps are like hawks to Faeries.

A friend flipped out at the dog fighting scene as well. I had to remind her "it’s SPCA/Humane Society supervised, no dogs are being hurt [I know it really goes on, but these dogs are ‘actors’]. Speaking of- Sam Merlotte naked in a dog collar… how near is that to my own Faerie pond?
Do you think little brother is going with him because he wants to get away from their parents or do you think he’s as bad as they are and has something up his sleeves?

I noticed Jesus is on next week’s episode.

A favorite line was Jason to LaFayette (paraphrasing): “No man I don’t want to buy any V, I put that shit behind me! I want to buy some meth.”

Yeah, that really got me. I thought something had happened to change him…

That was insanely cold, when they shot the dog and just dumped it on the pile of other carcasses. Got my 2 mutts a couple extra belly rus as well.

Didn’t think the magister’s sword/stake looked like it had a blade capable of lopping a head off.

My fave was “Not smart enuf to be depressed” - but another candidate is Pam’s “I guess you can dish it out but can’t take it” followed by Eric’s (paraphrase) “We can taunt him later.”

Oh yeah - and the magister’s riff on Tiffany’s girls.

I love this show!

My guess is that these two are related – the queen is hoping to figure out a way to use Sookie (or her blood) to become resistant to sunlight.

It seemed clear that Bill drinking a ton of Sookie’s blood is what gave him resistance to the sun light. I think what might be kind of interesting is if a vampire drinks enough of her blood that they turn back into a human…

Anyway I missed a couple of episodes this season, so I have a question. The King showed Sookie that Bill has been doing research on her bloodline for hundreds of years. Was this actually Bill’s research, or someone else??? (Or does the audience not know yet?)

I wondered about Bill not burning up in the sun too, and the best I could do was maybe it was because he had just fed. Perhaps the fact that it was faerie blood made him even more resistant? If drinking faeirie blood can make vampires resistant to or proof from the sun, that would explain why a vampire who knows that (e.g Queen SophieAnn, perhaps) would be so interested in Sookie.

So Sookie’s dream is some insight into what she truly is. So what exactlly is that? Nymphs? Faeries? Members of the Polyphonic Spree?

I haven’t read the books, but my understanding from those who have is that Sookie is a faerie.

I figured it had something to do with Sookie’s blood, and whoever’s doing the makeup this season is doing a good job too, because the first few episodes of this season, Bill barely looks human at all. He looks so different from even last season that I didn’t know what to think. But this episode, he clearly looks more ‘human’ than ever before, so obviously it’s on purpose. I don’t know why it was so distracting previously.

Or are still a vampire but are immune to day light.

I don’t think that we know yet.

I thought that it was strange that Bill insisted on getting Jason’s permission before he cured Sookie.

It would also explain why the Faeries are so terrified of Vampires (the running from “the darkness” scene, like baby chicks from a hawk).

The Faery land, whatever it is, reminds me a bit of Camelot from _Holy Grail_/_Spamalot_: “No, let’s not go there, it’s rather a silly place”.

Well, Jason is next of kin, so presumably he needs to approve healthcare decisions. (Also, Bill is kind of old-fashioned.)

It may be that faeries lose their power when exposed to too much vampire.

I’m not sure that vamps are bound by HIPAA. ;). Usually they do whatever they hell they want.
