Right, I think the bull gored her and she said something like “I am the sacrifice? Then I willingly sacrifice myself for you.” It made sense to me with the rules they had set up on the show.

I hope this isn’t thread-shitting because it’s my honest opinion and I tried to like this show this season, honest I did. I love the books and quite enjoyed Season 1. But . . . .

I thought the show became stupider, less coherent, more ridiculous, and more boring as the season went on, cumulating with a season finale that was basically 20 minutes of frenetic and stupid wrap-up – lick the bloody ostrich egg! – followed by 40 minutes of setting up Season 3. Two words for Season 2: hot mess. Which ironically is great for me, because I don’t watch much TV and don’t like having to be home to see a particular show, and now that I’ve dutifully sat through this and it’s OVER, I don’t have to worry about making plans to see Season 3.

I sincerely hope you all continue to enjoy. I’m going back to the books. 🙂

Which power of Sookie’s was used? She knocked the Meat Tree over – anything else? Oh, and she got inside Eggs’ head. I was confused by that but maybe I haven’t been paying attention. Sookie saw what Eggs had done but she didn’t tell him. How did he know? Is that how it’s worked all along?

Something else I don’t get is how Tara “summoned” Maryanne. That’s very hazy.

Damn. Me too.

> Not that I don’t mind seeing Eggs go away, but how is Andy going to explain shooting someone in the back of the head as self defense? Normally police would shoot someone in the limbs or torso if they need to stop them. I think Andy is going to get into some serious trouble about it next season, and Jason will probably end up confessing eventually.

**sohvan** , I doubt if we’ll hear any more about it. Andy and Jason both thought Eggs was trying to kill Andy, and nobody saw what happened except them.

**Jodi** , I agree. There was a lot of silliness and improbable stuff throughout the season. Maybe it all makes sense if you take it as a whole, but I’m not willing to rewatch. It’s too bad that the show was so successful, because the writers won’t have any impetus to change things up.

[Adam Savage headgear voice]Obviously you’re not watching closely enough. I mean, duh, they were drinking blood and licking it \*onto \*the ostrich egg. No wonder you’re lost. [/ASHV]

Actually, I agree with you, the show is often silly and dumb. But I still love it.

Another thing I liked: they made us think Hoyt and Jessica were having an O. Henry moment, then subverted it.

I’m kinda hating the Queen Vamp so far. I just can’t beleive someone who could kick Eric’s ass without even breaking a sweat would be in such a position of power. Some earlier vamp would have killed such a ditzy annoying woman years ago!

Yeah, me too. As soon as the queen explained that Maryanne gained all her powers and immortality through sheer belief, it was clear that the only way to kill her would be to trick her into believing that she was dying, or at least that she could die. Using Sam as the bull was well done, although I also was wondering how he managed to imprint on a brahman bull on short notice. Possibly a local farmer breeds them? Or would a painting or photograph be enough?

That bothered me, too. Tell Jason to do it, or do it yourself. Even Sam probably could’ve dug a big hole in short order with all that vampire blood in him.

But Maryanne also said she came to Bon Temps in search of Sam, which actually does make some sense.

Maryanne saying that Tara summoned her feels more like a writer’s attempt to explain why Maryanne latched on to Tara, instead of another Bon Temps resident.

How was it explained in the book? Was it Sam or Tara that caused Maryanne to show up?

Neither, as I recall. Her appearance was related to an orgy club, and eventually that situation went nuclear, and she wandered off. I don’t want to go into a lot of detail because of spoilers and all, and besides it was a REALLY stupid subplot.

As soon as Sookie walked out of the bathroom and Vampire Bill was gone, this line went through my mind:

_“I’m goin’ to Jackson, I’m gonna mess around,
Yeah, I’m goin’ to Jackson,
Look out Jackson town.”_

Oh course that’s from Johnny and June Cash’s song: Jackson. If you’ve read book 3, Club Dead, you know why I’m singing it.

Not a fan of Bill giving Sookie an engagement ring. Why was that needed?

Season 3 for me all hinges on who they cast to play one of my favorite characters from the book: Alcide Hevereaux. If they mess that up, it will kill season 3 for me. In my mind and the way Charlene describes him, he needs to be a burly man’s man type. AB better not cast a boy in this man’s role.

Anyone heard anything about who it might be?

In the deleted scene, her fairy godmother is watching from the woods and making the chain go all telekinetic. There’s a link to the video in one of the old threads for this season.

I think it’s interesting that late in this season we’ve found out that both Bill and Sookie have magic blood with amorous properties. So basically they are both under each other’s chemical love spell lol.

That’s pretty standard protocol for marriage proposals. What was the nature of your objection?

I did like the Burlington reference, although it took me a minute to get it.

Seems like a trend to me. Season 1 started off well and the characters were interesting and I liked how they introduced the characters and their quirks and powers. Then at the end of the season the sTuPId comes in full force and just drags the story into the ground. I find it odd that in one moment the writing and direction can be so entertaining and that the same people can fuck it up so colossally 10 episodes later. Its almost as if they have a bunch of amateur Steven Kings writing it, great start and middle with shitty nonsense endings. Season 2 played out the same. Very strong start and some terrific scenes and bits of drama which built into a steaming pile of shit for a climax. The Maryanne stuff was never that well executed but the final scenes got tedious and never really made much sense. It’s a shame really, the foundation of the show is really great. I think HBO just needs to spend a few extra bucks on writers who can do more than craft a interesting character and can actually develop and plot and full story arc.

It’s not as hard as you might think. I used to live in Moss Point, Ms, a town as little and as backwater as Bon Temps (and about 100 miles from where it’s supposed to be), and we had easy access to Ostrich and Emu eggs and meat. They’re a popular retirement farm animal, although it’s a hard sell on the meat because it’s such a dark, dark and bloody meat - which would’ve made it perfect for one of Maryanne’s pies.

Not all spoilers are created equal. Some lazy shits around here like to use spoiler tags without any context or preamble to explain what it is that’s being spoiled. Using a spoiler tag doesn’t absolve someone from being a jerk if it’s done carelessly and without due consideration. If this were a Lost thread I think it’s safe to say that there’s a difference between spoilering who’s listed in the credits for a upcoming episode versus spoilering a reveal on what the Island’s great mystery is.

> That’s pretty standard protocol for marriage proposals. What was the nature of your objection?

I objected because, in the book, Sookie makes a point of talking about how she wasn’t quite sure she wanted to marry a vampire and how _Bill had never asked her_, so she realized it was rather pointless to think through. She had no guarantee whatsoever that Bill ever intended to propose. IMO, this is one plot point that splits off from the books that actually denigrates the integrity of the characters. What I mean by that is, those weren’t the actions/attitudes that Charlaine Harris wrote those characters to do/have.

I don’t really mind when the TV series producers/writers/whatever decide to take a minor character from the books (like Jason or Tara) and blow that up into a major character with its own plots and conflicts. I don’t mind when they make shit up (like this whole Maryann thing, which went down in a totally different way from how it went down in the book), but I do mind when established, major characters do stuff in the series that is totally out of character for them in the books. Bugs me.
