True buttercream? Is it really eggs I've been missing all these years?

And for the record and the curious: I did what I said I would do to fix my frosting, which was just a little too salty: I whipped up another batch of the caramel sauce and added it to the frosting. It accomplished exactly what I wanted, which was to temper the salt and boost the caramel flavor.

The end product was and is exceptional. Easily the most delicious frosting I have ever tasted in my life, and completely addicting, especially combined with spice cake. Heavenly.

So now I know what I will make for the block party this weekend… spicy cupcakes with salted caramel frosting! Maybe cake if cupcakes is too much of a pain.

I wish a had a bunch of “baby” cupcake pans…or disposables. Hmm. I guess cake is easier.
