Trump ally and conservative pundit Charlie Kirk shot at Utah event [now reported deceased, same date 10SEP2025]

European or American?

That’s just so odd. I thought that the owners of The Yankees were Star Wars fans.

NM - my witicism, on reflection, was not that witty.

Police now say they’re tracking a college aged suspect.

Yeah, pretty much this. It is interesting that he turned into one of those fatalities he thought were an acceptable cost for keeping the second amendment. My evangelical relatives, on the other hand, were weeping all over social media about it. These are women who have bought into Kirk’s ‘femininity, not feminism’ bullshit hook, line, and sinker.

It’s a University, so that’s the obvious thing.

They say that shot was harder to make than Oswalds.
( Are we Sure this wasn’t someone sniper trained? )

Not that I miss Charlie Kirk.

My guess is that when this guy is caught we’re just going to find out he’s a nutjob like most other assassins. I think a lot of people don’t have a full appreciation for how easy it is to hit a man sized target from a few hundred yards away when using a rifle. Don’t get me wrong, hitting that target takes some practice, but it’s not a particularly impressive shot even with iron sights, and I think most people posting here could also have made the shot provided they had some practice. As with Luigi Mangione and the DC Sniper, I am impressed the shooter escaped. That strikes me as much more difficult than making the shot.

JFK was moving, that alone makes that shot significantly harder.

Fine. MAGA-scum will be arguing this point for years. I’ll happily leave it to them to beat their brains out over.

“This Week on The Discovery Channel: Charlie Kirk killed by Aliens! Was Bat-boy involved…?”

Yep, I don’t think I’d be able to make a 200 yard shot, but a 100 one seems trivially easy for me to do the basic aiming for even though I’ve never done it (not taking compensation and recoil into account). I eyeball say a signpost and I am surprised how close it looks at 100. A moving target would be another story.

whoever did this was either very experienced or very lucky.

I don’t think you have to be so “very experienced”. Shooting competitions in our national rifle association use the Sauer TR with diopter sights, targets at 100m and at 200m or 300m. Most recreational shooters put most of their bullets within the black part of the target, i.e. 7 or better. At 200m, the 7 has a diameter of 40 cm. A human head is some 20 cm, so a 9 on the 200 m target. Most half-decent recreational sports shooters shouldn’t have too much of a problem hitting a 9 or better lying prone with support

I heard that they found the rifle, and do have security video of the gunman while on the campus. As I heard the news, they aren’t giving details of the suspect just yet, but they are actively working with the information that they have.

The press conference this AM claimed they have video of the shooter and have the weapon. The video is of a college aged male walking in the halls. Also various identifying prints. The weapon is a ‘high powered rifle’. No info of a round being matched to the weapon.

Seemed very tentative about the data. But, if it’s real they have what they need.

High-power single shot bolt action. He knew what he was doing and was not planning on missing.

From ABC News:

Seems unwise to let the killer know that his footwear can be used to help identify him.

It was a sniper rifle shot from 200 yards away, killing his very public, very evil, target instantly.

It was clearly Moxxie from Helluva Boss.

Anyway, Sophie LaBelle shared a comic with some of Charlie Kirk’s greatest hits:

“These doctors need to be put in prison quickly. We need to have a Nuremberg-style trial for every gender-affirming clinic doctor. We need it immediately.”

[After quoting a Bible verse justifying the stoning to death of gay people]: “God’s perfect law when it comes to sexual matters.”

“LGBTQ is a social contagion.”

“If I see a black pilot, I’m gonna be like, ‘Boy, I hope he’s qualified.’”

“We need armed militias to prevent the diminishing of white demographics.”

“It’s worth it to have the cost of, unfortunately, some fun deaths every single year, so that we can have the Second Amendment to protect our other God-given rights.”

“I think empathy is a made-up, new-age term that does a lot of damage.”

The impressive part is not the shot; it’s the getting away.

Great typo in the second-to-last line.

Agreed, both entry and exit.

I’m sure that you are right about 100 yards (although that’s the end of the endzone to the endzone of a football field. Set up, sight, hold breath, hit a neck shot, break down and bug out in less than 2 minutes is a lot to ask).

Can I see a cite / news report link that it was 100 yards only? Initially, I’d seen reports that it was as much as 400 yards. Understand… I’m not doubting you. I just want to understand and see the reported facts.
