Trump and a feeling of momentum for impeachment

Seriously? Why bring up Hillary/Benghazi/email now?

Trump persecution complex. This isn’t nearly the greatest witch hunt that’s existed in American politics.

All that happened when the Republicans were the opposition party. Now that the media is the opposition party, the witch hunting is bigger. This is a surety.

I’d even start with snowball questions: popular vote totals, inauguration crowd size, and his personal wealth totals.

Wrong thread, sorry.

You forgot size of hands.

Nope. I was saving that for the “Columbo” moment.

Pelosi is smart. First, there’s only going to be one chance, so better make it count. Second, Trump is the gift that keeps giving for Democratic elections. Let the Republicans make the hard choice between a president destroying their party or they doing it themselves.

She’s probably counting on the Pubbies to do everything they can to delay proceedings. The upside of that is bringing the whole mess along closer to the midterms. Then, with a bit of luck she might be in line right after Pence. Now, there isn’t much chance of Pence going down with Trump, but it can’t hurt.

Smarter Republicans might well prefer to rip the bandage off right now, and start working on recovering. I agree that this might well be the smartest move, which is why I doubt it will happen.

More immediately, it would be avoiding taking the Republicans off the hook for their own mess. When the other guys are energetically making themselves look like idiots, the appropriate response is to appear adultlike, pursing one’s lips except for a Tsk-tsk, and sadly shaking one’s head. Which is what she’s doing.

It isn’t as if the Democrats can *threaten *impeachment anyway, but they can certainly let the Republicans put themselves into such a tight spot that they have to do it themselves.

The day after the special prosecutor was named, Chaffetz decided to bail out. Koinkydink?

Let it be dully noted that he is not saying that Mr Comey is lying about possessing such memos. Except maybe sorta kinda.

Comey has not (to my knowledge) publically claimed that that the memo exists. It’s a NYT report. Chaffetz is apparently somewhat skeptical of that report.

It’s been independently confirmed by multiple outlets, including Fox News.

It doesn’t sound like Chaffetz was aware of that. He only referenced the NYT (& said that their reporter had not actually seen the memo).

Chaffetz is an ambition-crazed weasel. Trust him at your peril. And ours.

Is Pence’s camp circling the wagons?:
*
Vice President Mike Pence has been kept in the dark about former National Security Adviser Mike Flynn’s alleged wrongdoing, according to a source close to the administration, who cited a potential “pattern” of not informing the vice president and calling it “malpractice or intentional, and either are unacceptable.”*

Not sure how he can claim to be in the dark when he was directly informed.

Santa Claus has millions of letters mailed to him a year.

Having a letter mailed to you and reading that letter are significantly different things. Not to say that Pence is innocent, but it’s pretty easy to explain that an assistant didn’t forward it, that it was shelved because it was from a Democrat, etc.

One might also suggest that, if he’d been aware of Flynn’s issues, he would have been less inclined to have given the one interview where he vouched for him.

Hard to say at this point.

The letter from Elijah Cummings to Mike Pence came four days after Flynn’s lobbying efforts had already made the news.

So he can try the “Oh, well, you know the Post Office, amirite?” line if he wants but Robert Mueller is unlikely to fall for it. No reason why the rest of us should, either.
