Most Americans did not watch this debate. But Harris did far better. She kept her composure even as Trump started talking about Pelosi or immigrants and animals. She did not answer every question, but she repeatedly got her main points across and differentiated herself from both Biden and Trump. She threaded some difficult needles and avoided mendacity. I wasn’t going to watch the debate, but like a train wreck, did so anyway. But I refused to hear the analysis and am pleased Swift endorsed the sane candidate. Trump got angry, got rattled, said a few weird things. But I found him more coherent than expected. I think the moderators did a good job of letting both people respond briefly and gently cutting people off. Will there be another debate? I ho knows? ---

Someone from my small Minnesota home town just posted that Trump had to debate 3 people, and got a few agreements. I’d reply that being corrected for lying isn’t really having to debate the moderators, but it would be a water against a dam. ---

Rightwing WABC radio is trying desperately to make it sound good for Trump and they’re flailing. They interviewed Anthony Weiner (hey… you get what you can get) and he is pointing out that Trump got roasted. ---

If anyone wants further confirmation of who won the debate, look no further than Fox News. In one column they’re quoting a right-wing radio talk-show host claiming that the moderators were always fact-checking Trump – very unfair! In another, House GOP Conference Chairwoman Elise Stefanik, R-N.Y. is quoted as calling the debate moderators “pro-Kamala activists”.
