I just think it makes Trump’s accusation triply-laughable. There’s no reason to think that Harris had the questions in advance, anybody with a brain wold have known what general questions would be asked, and it wouldn’t matter because candidates don’t anser the questions anyway. Trump just lost a football game, and he’s complaining how the umpire called balls and strikes. ---

As a person with ADHD who just went back to school, I think Trump is doing an ADHD thing here. Kamala looked like she was given all the answers because she studied for the test. She spent several days studying hard and using good methods to make sure she could give comprehensive answers on any subject that was likely to come up. As you said, it wouldn’t be hard to guess what the hot topics would be and she’s already got answers for them so all she really had to do was trim her answers down to fit the allotted time. As for Trump, he is proud of himself for not studying because he thinks that everything that comes out of his blathering mouth is gospel truth that nobody can deny. So all he needs to go is go into the debate and bluster hard. Everyone will cheer in the appropriate places because that’s what they do at his rallies. As for the questions, he just doesn’t care. He doesn’t care about the subjects except in how they can be used to make him look good while making his opponent look bad. He doesn’t have answers, expecting the grade-school excuse of the “concept of a plan” to be worth something here. He doesn’t know what they are going to ask because he thinks he has already won. So he doesn’t prepare at all, fails hard and ends up blaming everyone except himself. He cries that it is rigged. Life isn’t rigged against people with ADHD but it can certainly be biased. My experience has been that I can overcome this bias in most scenarios by being aware of my weaknesses and proactively accounting for them. It is too bad Trump never learned how to do this. It leaves him under the impression that everything is rigged against him simply because he’s taking the wrong approach. ---

I was originally going to post this remark in this thread, but it was in limbo. Now I know why. Anyway, relevant to this thread: Trump totally was owned in that debate. Now he claims he won. You know how you can tell he’s lying? (Groucho) His lips are moving. (/Groucho) But seriously, it’s whenever he starts his conman spiel. He starts talking in his ridiculous superlatives, you know he’s selling something. “I totally won that debate. It was the best debate I ever had. It was perfect, the best debate ever. It was so perfect, nobody ever needs to do another debate. Comrade Harris did do poorly, she should be ashamed. She should pull out of the race and go back to Cal-e-for-nia. It’s a disgrace.” ---

In addition to the expecteds (Immigrants, Afghanistan, Sleepy Joe, Crooked Nancy, etc.), there were plenty of superlatives and comparatives: “Worst,” “Best,” “Nobody’s ever seen,” “Most people don’t know,” and so on. When Trump veers into ridiculous superlatives and comparatives, as he did at the debate, he knows he’s in trouble. And if you couldn’t already tell, now so do you. ---

Since the debate is over, I’ll add a little commentary on pre-debate antics. ABC was doing their pre-debate interviews with various commentators, and Martha Radditz was speaking with RNC Chair Reince Priebus. He referred to Harris as “ka Ma la”, emphasis on second syllable, several times. Martha made some subtle callout with her response saying something about seeing how Trump pronounces it. I thought that was wholly inadequate. I suppose Radditz is a consummate professional who was looking out for her reputation in how she deals with guests, but it seems to me an obvious response was sitting right there. She could have easily said, “Thank you for your thoughts, _Rince_.” I mean, here is a guy with an unconventional name that’s much harder to get right than “Comma la”. “Rye-nse Preebus” is a pretty soft target. I’m certain his name was a frequent source of frustration and annoyance as a child. I was never one for childhood mocking, but “Rinse your Preebus” just rolls off the tongue. So I would expect Mr. Glass House to take a bit more care in getting others’ names right. ---
