In the briefing last night it was mentioned the family had been notified but they were giving time for them to tell the extended family before releasing any information.
I haven’t seen anything about the weapon other than “AR-15 style.” They are usually 5.56mm but “style” covers a lot of different models that look like an AR-15 but aren’t. Most likely it is 5.55mm/.223 cal since that’s most common.
Reporting on nbc is that the firearm belonged to the shooter’s father. The pictures they are showing are 2 years old, high school graduation, and 2 posed pictures.
