Yeah, IRL you don’t take a shot “to graze” someone’s head unless you are trying to send a message and don’t care at all if the message ends up being final.
Let’s not make excuses for not taking credible reporting at face value.
There’s just not that many people at these rallies these days.
But yeah, this is really not acceptable.
This is very bad. We’re incredibly lucky the shooter only managed to hit his ear.

Political violence is bad, even against monsters like Trump.
Like I said, I don’t want him to be badly hurt. That wouldn’t be justice.
That was not my reaction. Which saddens me, because at no point in my life did I ever think I’d be anything but angry about someone trying to take out a presidential candidate. Now it just remains to be seen whether this was the work of some crackpot or for political reasons. Although these days it isn’t easy to separate crackpot and political beliefs.
And quite a few people, too.

I wonder if Trump, who has refused to absolutely denounce violence in the name of politics, had the “mags” taken down at the entrance.
It is easier for him to duck when the sound effects start, cut the ear, then rise back up with a “bullet wound”.
That’s just for the cameras. The shots came from his right, so it seems there was no one to his left, in the line of fire, thankfully.
He grabbed his ear immediately so he could have gotten nicked. I’m sure they’ll take head xrays and find nothing.

I laughed. Which is something, because I don’t feel like laughing right now.
To be fair, if everything were reversed (an apparent shooting at a Biden rally, Biden apparently suffering a minor injury, and the SDMB being a right-leaning community), I’d absolutely expect the same thing.
That said, even though I despise Trump, political violence is wrong and evil. Full stop.
