I could go back and edit except this site has the oddball restriction of not being able to edit a post more than a few minutes old. I have never understood the reason for that editing restriction , have not seen it on any other similar websites. ( I have a feeling someone will come along and tell me how wonderful it is that we cannot edit posts more than a few minutes old) ---

As I understand the edit limit, it’s to prevent a change in the conversation after others have already replied. For example, imagine the confusion reading this thread if you could go back and change the OP to “Reports say Trump is considering firing Nielsen, head of homeland security.” We’d have about 12 posts that make no sense. ---

I already knew there were reports of Nielsen’s impending firing (or more probably, “forced resignation”). I only clicked on the thread because the wording made it plausible it had now actually happened. Now I didn’t think that was certain, because many journalists (or whoever writes the headlines) and Dopers are less than precise when making subject lines/headlines, and that’s a lot more problematic for a headline than for a Straight Dope thread, but an accurate headline would have saved me a click on yet another “Trump is going to do this!”-thread. ---
