You do if your actual goal is to burn down sections of the town, because you own a construction company, and stand to make a ton of money with the rebuilding projects.

Yes, in theory, replacing human workers with robots is not a bad idea, except for the one really big glitch: how do those human workers now earn enough money to live on? When there are robots flipping burgers, and taking your money at the cash register, how are the displaced humans supposed to earn a living?

They don’t.

Then we call them lazy and shiftless, so that we feel better about ourselves when they live lives of shit.

Exactly. If we were using the benefits of automation to make it possible for more people to live comfortably without working, I’d be all for it. But automation that further enriches a small elite while making it **harder** for the non-wealthy to thrive does not sound like a good idea. Certainly it’s not the sort of idea that the Secretary of _Labor_ ought to be endorsing, for Pete’s sake.

Those are “liberals”, are they? Yeah, I guess Stalin and Pol Pot (ETA: and Hitler, I forgot Hitler) are pretty much interchangeable with Obama and Elizabeth Warren, or with Justin Trudeau up in Canada.

The mind of the Trumpster is a wonder to behold. I couldn’t even begin to imagine what churns around in there to produce the bloviations that come out of it.

You don’t know anything about history. Mr. “don’t know about when the counterculture died”.

The reality is that virtually all liberals I have seen do know how dead they would be if they lived under those dictatorships. Bill Gaines overall point to the House of Unamerican ACtivities was that indeed, most right wingers will always forget that all dictators do fear liberal thought and ideology and Gains did tell the HUAC and other authoritarians back then that in their efforts of fighting the communist dictators monsters that they were becoming monsters and of the **also** ugly fascist type.

Meh, you are just a defender of ignorant revisionist history. Even the conservative writer of _Liberal Fascism_, Jonah Goldberg, told us how it was that supporting Trump is a disaster for your side:

> It is entirely possible that conservatives sweat the details of tax policy too much. Once in office, a president must deal with political realities that render the fine print of a campaign pamphlet as useful as a battle plan after the enemy is met. But in the last month, Trump has contemplated a flat tax, the fair tax, maintaining the current progressive tax system, a carried-interest tax, a wealth tax, and doing nothing. His fans respond, “That shows he’s a pragmatist!” No. It shows that he has absolutely no ideological guardrails whatsoever. Ronald Reagan once said, “Government is like a baby. An alimentary canal with a big appetite at one end and no sense of responsibility at the other.” Trump is close to the reverse. He’s a mouth at the wrong end of an alimentary canal spewing crap with no sense of responsibility. In his embarrassing interview with Hugh Hewitt Thursday night, Trump revealed he knows less than most halfway-decent D.C. interns about foreign policy.

His whole shtick is an eminence front (“It’s a put on!” — The Couch). When running for president, doing your homework is a question of character and even patriotism. If you love this country and want to be the president, quite literally the least you can do is be prepared.

> Karl Marx coined the term lumpenproletariat to describe working-class people who could never relinquish their class consciousness and embrace the idea of a classless socialist society. Hence, they were useless to the revolutionary cause. I’m no Marxist, so I don’t buy the idea that anybody — never mind a whole class of people — are beyond persuasion. But I am tempted to believe that Donald Trump’s biggest fans are not to be relied upon in the conservative cause. I have hope they will come to their senses. But it’s possible they won’t. And if the conservative movement and the Republican party allow themselves to be corrupted by this flim-flammery, then so be it. My job will be harder, my career will suffer, and I’ll be ideologically homeless (though hardly alone). That’s not so scary. Conservatism began in the wilderness and maybe, like the Hebrews, it would return from it stronger and ready to rule. But I’m not leaving without a fight. If my side loses that fight, all I ask is you stop calling the Trumpian cargo cult “conservative” and maybe stop the movement long enough for me to get off.

Let’s clarify: We’re talking about EC-Mad Bill Gaines? HUAC?

Could it be the senate subcomittee on Juvenile Delinquency?

Another Bill Gaines?

> [@wolfpup](#):
>
> Those are “liberals”, are they?

Yes, **wolfpup** , Stalin, et al., were most certainly liberals. You know, no capitalism, forced lifestyle equality, central planning and government providing for all needs. And oh, yeah, that most obvious liberal trait of all - intolerance for disagreement or criticism! So intolerant in fact that it was made a crime. And not only a crime but the ones most severe. Under communist rule the most serious crimes were not theft, assault, rape, etc., but ‘crimes against the state’. These usually took the form of criticism or complaint about the government or suggestions of its overthrow. Everyone was encouraged to inform on everyone else and everybody lived in fear of the midnight knock on the door and being dragged off into the night, never to be heard from again. People couldn’t even feel secure in their own homes because children were encouraged to inform on their own parents should they ever utter a non-approved thought or criticism. Tens of millions were murdered for resisting being properly communized (or starved to death through government incompetence in the case of China), but none of that mattered because when the state is supreme the individual is expendable. (As **GIGObuster** just inadvertently illustrated in his quote of Johah Goldberg’s blatherings, when he states:

> [@](#):
>
> Karl Marx coined the term lumpenproletariat to describe working-class people who could never relinquish their class consciousness and embrace the idea of a classless socialist society. Hence, they were useless to the revolutionary cause.

Goldberg fails to mention that they and others even suspected of such reticence were eliminated.

He then goes on to state:

> [@](#):
>
> I’m no Marxist, so I don’t buy the idea that anybody — never mind a whole class of people — are beyond persuasion.

So in other words he just can’t bring himself to believe that somehow a whole class of people can’t be indoctrinated to think the way he wants them to. I submit that he’s more of a Marxist and more of a liberal than he wants to admit.

Further, the people you’ve held up as liberals, **wolfpup** , are really just wannabes, held in check by the democracies they hold positions in. Sort of liberal-lite, if you will. But for full-blown liberalism there’s nothing that comes close to communism to expose it for what it really is.

[Donald Trump]
Wrong!
[DT]

What he and many other conservatives, like George Will, point out is that indeed the corruption of what conservatism was about is happening with Donald Trump, and you are falling for that corruption.

> The problem is when you have, in the Carrier case, political power used to bring pressure upon a privately owned institution that has fiduciary duty to maximize shareholder value and drive them off with political pressure with making economic decisions about economic assets, you are, in effect, at the end of the day, getting the federal government involved in capital allocation. There is a name for that, it’s called socialism.

Do you know what a social democracy is?

Never mind. You’re obviously an ignorant and extremist fuckwit. Remember, we don’t need to worry about “intolerance for disagreement or criticism”, either, because I’m sure it’s just a myth that Trump sends out all those tweets in the middle of the night condemning everyone who criticizes him, everyone who protests against him, who has brownshirt thugs at his rallies, or that he has sued everyone who has ever said anything mean about him, or that he’s threatened to bring down press censorship once he’s in power via strengthened libel laws so no one can criticize him!

In any case, I guess it’s fortunate that Trump and the extremist ideologues that he’s appointing are all self-sacrificing altruists, and the public good is all they’ve ever wanted! 😃

Donald Trump, his family, and his cabinet are certainly not socialists. I see the set up as more of a monarchy.
