May have not been able to get custody, but I’m pretty sure adultery would be cause to deny alimony.

I actually taught kindergarten for several years at the start of my career in education. And I experienced _very little_ sexual harassment.

I hate to say it (cough, cough), but the guy might have a point…

(Should my sarcasm prove too subtle, the third sentence above doesn’t represent my opinion. I think the man in question is not only a nutcase, but a dangerous one. But I \*was \*a kindergarten teacher during my twenties.)

How many men have been executed for crime of rape?

This [page](http://www.deathpenaltyinfo.org/death-penalty-offenses-other-murder) doesn’t sound like this cruel and unusual punishment was handed down very often.

**Starving Artist** , let me ask you something. If you were at some charity event, or a ballgame, or something, and, say, Oprah Winfrey were also there (keynote speaker, throwing first pitch, whatever). And suppose that Oprah walked up to you, grabbed your crotch, and kissed you. What would your reaction be? Would it just be “Oh, well, girls will be girls”, and that you should tough up and not mind? Or would it be something else?
(Note: I do not for one moment believe that Oprah would ever do something like this. I picked her for this hypothetical because she’s a super-rich strongly-opinionated media personality who is not noted for her looks, and whom her detractors very strongly dislike.)

I don’t think that argument is very compelling. The power dynamic is different since most men are physically stronger than most women. If that happened to me, I’d think she was nuts and probably tell her off. I certainly wouldn’t consider pressing charges unless she actually harmed me, physically.

BTW, Oprah is no longer a “spring chicken”, but she was a beauty contest winner in her younger days. I don’t know what the female equivalent of a Trump appearance would be, but I think you have to take the personality into account, too. Trump is a repulsive person, if you ask me, regardless of his looks.

The mistake that SA is making is that believing that the standards and practices regarding social interactions when it comes to heterosexual sexual relationships are somehow inherent and not affected by society as a whole. Any reasonable knowledge or perspective regarding the history of human societies would reveal that things can and do change in the ways that men and women interact with each other sexually. If you’ve discussed sex with anyone from your parents’ or grandparents’ generation you would see significant differences even in relatively short periods of time.

Maybe I suffer from a double standard, but when I see what Trump is accused of doing, I think: creepy, disgusting and dangerous. In the Oprah hypothetical, I think: pathetic and crazy. Now, if she had a gun, that might make things different… I suppose it might also be different if I were apply for a job in her organization, and felt that there might be some negative consequences of thwarting her unwanted advances. Or, if I thought she had some ability to ruin my career in show biz. But I just wouldn’t feel physically intimidated by Oprah in the way a woman might feel around Trump.

It was a left handed compliment.

What do you respect about Trump?

Actually, I am misremembering. She did, in fact, say “I respect his children.” Sorry 'bout that. I somehow just remembered as her saying she respected his love and devotion to his children. Not sure how my brain mixed that up.

Trump’s children were actually _raised_ by his ex-wives so any credit goes to them.

In return, he said she wasn’t a quitter. After campaigning about how weak and tired she is, so he managed to undercut his message _and_ give her a great sound bite.

Yeah, I acknowledge that Oprah isn’t a perfect analogy-- Far from it. But I figured that if I just left it open-ended, **Starving Artist** (or any other man reading it) might mentally picture whatever hot young actress he fancies, from whom he might enjoy such treatment.

Heck, if you’d prefer, use Hillary Clinton for the hypothetical, instead: A lot of people certainly seem to find her repulsive, for reasons that I don’t really understand.

Here’s the thing - I just think this sort of thing is blown way out of proportion. In the first place I would imagine that the number of times someone just walks up to a woman or encounters her in an elevator or something and just grabs her crotch out of the blue is vanishingly small.

But even more than that, I just don’t think it’s that big of a deal and worthy of all the outrage, much less _fucking prison sentences!_ The idea that someone can or should to jail for _touching_ someone is idiotic beyond belief in my opinion, and would never happen in the first place were not politics attached to it.

If Oprah or any other woman were to grab me by the crotch or goose me or something like that, I’d be put off and maybe disgusted or annoyed and would likely express that, but it would never cross my mind to call the police or press charges (nor frankly, even that a crime had occurred). And I certainly wouldn’t regard it as sexual assault, which in my opinion is analogous to a determined attempt at forcible rape.

I’m constantly amazed at how people lose their shit when sex is involved. There are any number of offenses that would cause much worse physical, emotional or financial harm to someone that no one would blink an eye at, yet insert sex into the issue and no outrage is too excessive and no punishment too severe. It’s ridiculous.

For most people, sure. But Trump says he does it on a regular basis, whenever he meets a woman who meets his standards of beauty.

Yes, you are right. The vast majority of men never do anything remotely like this.

A small number (2-3% by some estimates) are responsible for 97% of the sexual assaults. So if you are one of the many guys who never do this, it’s hard to understand that so many women are groped or assaulted by this small number of assholes who do it to hundreds of women over their lifetimes.

I’m sure you’d just brush off, say, a forcible sexual advance from a 7 foot 400 pound man. You have formidable and near super-human psychological powers – you’re certainly not going to be bothered by a mere crotch squeeze from a massive person who could break you in two with ease while licking their lips.

But not everyone is as mentally powerful as you. Most people are strongly affected by someone stronger than they are invading their personal space and taking liberties with their body that they haven’t granted. Especially when such people might have been attacked and raped in the past.

Since such behavior can be so terrorizing, why wouldn’t we want to legally sanction it? If someone can’t grab your wallet without being prosecuted, why can they grab your junk?

Seriously, dude. It’s hard to believe that you actually believe what you’re posting. You’re saying a man shouldn’t go to jail if he makes a habit of grabbing women’s breasts? Or little girls crotches? That’s just no big deal to you?

Wow. You are a truly reprehensible human being.

For arguments sake, and still using Oprah in the example, if she not only grabbed you, but many other people as well, would it still not be a crime?
