Consent is a response to overtures, after all, and while you may not approve of those overtures, it appears the women he’s claiming to have done this to were fine with it. He, like I, grew up in an era where it was expected that men make the passes and women make the call as to whether to accept them. The idea of overt pre-approval never occurred to anyone, male or female. And I doubt that in the real world things have changed all that much, even today. I can’t count the number of times I’ve heard women speak critically of guys who ask in advance if it’s okay to kiss them. We aren’t just talking about back in the '60’s or '70’s when things like this may or may not have been accepted- I don’t know; I wasn’t there. It’s not like that now, where men just grab women by the crotch or kiss them with no implied permission and wait to see what happens. Today, the statement that if you are assaulted and don’t report it you’re ok with it is naive at best. Just because you don’t know of anyone who reported it to the authorities, doesn’t mean they were ok with it. Maybe they did express outrage to him, but he’d never admit that. Trump is a powerful man, and women don’t always report when someone in a position of fame or authority does something inappropriate. That does not make it OK. ---

When I said things like that were common, I was talking about the language. Trust me, walking up to a girl or woman and grabbing her crotch was just as verboten then as it is now. (Though it wouldn’t have been attended by all the political b.s. and hysterics that would accompany such an action today.) The woman would have slapped the guy’s face, and maybe a brother or boyfriend would have kicked his ass, and that would have been the end of it. And believe it or not, the woman would have carried on in her life with a sense of having rightfully put the guy in his place rather than convinced of her own victimhood. ---

You may be surprised to learn that in 2016 sexual assault is a crime, and people who commit it are rightly put in prison. ---

I think people are taking Trump’s comment, grab her by the P way to literally. I’m not aware of any sane or rational guy that would walk up to a lady and do that. That’s sexual predator type behavior. Not horny rich guy. Imho Trump was referring to a consensual make out session. Getting to Third base isn’t it? Whatever it’s called these days. What he said is vulgar and offensive. I really don’t think he was implying sexual assault. He’s much too vulnerable to blackmail to do something that stupid. If he was assaulting women it would have hit the news many years ago. ---

The man is running for President of the U.S. and should have a much higher level of class and respect for the people he represents than we are repeatedly hearing from Trump. I’m not sure what you mean by “too literally” since he said he actually did this. Whether he did or not, he said he did and implied it was OK. So yes, he went well past just implying sexual assault. He admitted having done it without consent. “I’ve got to use some Tic Tacs, just in case I start kissing her. You know I’m automatically attracted to beautiful — I just start kissing them. I can’t claim to understand Trump. I don’t think his own kids fully understand him. His loudmouth has destroyed any chance of winning the election. I wanted to believe he was all big mouth and said stupid stuff. But if he did grab women then he’ll be in court for awhile over those other cases. ---

I am so furious with Trump that I forgot to address the initial question. IMHO, it’s likely Bush will lose this job, which I was surprised he got in the first place. He’s never seemed smart or professional enough for a major network program. I don’t watch Access Hollywood so I haven’t seen a lot of him but when I have heard him talk it’s not been stellar: [ul] [li]Last year he attacked Kelly Osborne over the brouhaha about Zendaya’s dreadlocks, when he could and should have stayed out of the public discussion.[/li][li]At the Olympics, he defended Ryan Lochte’s behavior.[/li][li]He reportedly pissed off Jeremy Piven by asking him repeatedly whether he had met Angelina Jolie’s or Tom Cruise’s babies just because he lived in Malibu.[/li][/ul] He has always struck me as a shallow frat boy who wants to look cool, and this latest instance certainly didn’t change my mind. _Today_ can do better. ---

I’ll admit this isn’t quite the same thing, but any of you guys wanna hear Obama speaking of [ribs and pussy](https://youtu.be/WKYmiWiNqOw)? I note that as is the case with many men, the word pussy flows pretty easily from his lips. I suspect this isn’t the first time he’s used it. And we know he has no qualms about speaking it in public. At least Trump had the decency to think his use of the word was off the record. 😛 ---

It is indeed not the same thing, because it is mostly a false item.
