No one said your opinion was invalid, just stupid. World of difference.

How about I call bullshit on you having reasons like these? Better yet, I’ll let _you_ call bullshit, using your own words: (italics mine

Sometimes, it’s just a feeling at first. But, as to specifics, once he was elected these are a few of the things that confirmed my original thoughts: the Arab Spring where imo he went around doing an apology tour for the U.S., the Iran deal, while we needed to get out of Afghanistan, again, imo, it was too soon, we needed to keep more troops there, the Crimea incident, and Syria with the red line. Domestically speaking, the way the Obamacare bill got pushed through. However, that was a congressional thing so I’m not laying that at his feet and I’m not going to get started on that here, I believe there are other threads. Imo, it’s done some good but it needs some tweaking. However, the way it went through, there wasn’t an opportunity for any tweaking to be done in the first place. So here we are with that. I respect that you disagree with me and I’m sure I’ll be seeing a lot of backlash over the specific differences that I had with his policies but, hey, I can live with that and I can only speak to how I didn’t care for many of his decisions. If you still think that makes me racist, that sucks, but, I won’t lose sleep over it because I know I’m not.

You had this feeling before any of that happened. You said that he scared you, when he was running.

Since you had preformed your opinion before he ever took office, then of course you are going to be critical of his actions while he is in office.

But you did say, while he was running, that there was just this “something” that you didn’t like about him.

Yeh, I can see how all those things sound so darn scary. I don’t know how you slept at night. But the threat of imminent nuclear war? Perhaps if I stare at this color, I’ll feel calm:

There was no “apology tour”, Obama did the same thing every other normal president does, which is make the rounds. Republicans called it an “apology tour” because losing makes them sad. The ACA was not pushed through in any meaningful sense of the word, it went through numerous rounds of debate (three in the House, two in the Senate, as per Snopes) and was subject to 130 amendments and hours of debate. Contrast this with Republican methodology as so was so recently on display. Your opinion is based on Republican talking points, not facts. Your opinion is not informed.

And was a _Republican_ idea in the first place. But as Ds got on board, those Rs suddenly decided it wasn’t such a good idea and jumped off.

Okay, fair enough. I mostly felt compelled to point that out because your wording did seem open to misinterpretation.

But although the judicial branch - unlike the presidency and Congress - is supposed to ultimately be non-partisan, I take your point. Only a fool would deny that the Supreme Court (and other federal courts) have become extremely politicized.

Sure, that’s what I said, but to have someone who has no idea who I am insinuate that it’s because I’m a racist is, I think wrong. Has no one here ever just had an initial feeling good or bad about someone? I’m pretty sure there was a thread about it somewhere. I see your point, the idea of the preconceived notion and I agree it may have caused me to be critical of him. However, I still didn’t agree with some of his policies and not based on a preconceived notion but rather, a different political pov.

However, I still didn’t agree with some of his policies and not based on a preconceived notion but rather, a different political pov.

I have had initial good or bad feelings about people based on my first impression of them. I’ve learned to disregard those feelings, as they have never actually served me well.

What I have found, is if I allowed those first impressions to continue to color the way I view someone, then they become reinforcing, and ever little thing that they do wrong makes me more critical, and everything they do right I want to dismiss.

So, while I am human, and certainly far from perfect, I do do my best to not prejudge people, to not go on my preconceived notions.

Now, if your point was that that “something” was that he was a democrat, and that is why you didn’t like him, because he has a different political POV, then that’s a completely different story, but that is something that I can put my finger on.

But yeah, from your own story, you admit that you allowed your initial impressions, before you knew anything about his policies or politics other than he had a “D” in front of his name, to color everything he did later.

Obama gambled. The Pubbies bet that ACA would be so unpopular, the resistance so massive that it would collapse and take the Dems with it. So they let the Dems have it, and loaded it up with stuff that would be unpopular and take effect soon, while the benefits would only be apparent down the road. After Obama lost the midterms, the R’s would be in control and repeal was dead certain. As a bonus, the whole thing would sink like Clinton’s attempt did, and the issue would be gone for another generation.

Obama bet his whole legacy on it. That it would survive the shitstorm long enough for the thing to start affecting the people who needed it so badly. That the ACA would survive an avalanche of lies and then become acceptable. And then there would be something to improve and enhance…something that would very much need improvement, which it very much does.

The Pubbies went along with it because they were sure it would fail. It very nearly did. But battered, beaten, and bandaged, it exists. And he was betting it would be barely alive, then better, and then better. It was one hell of a risk.

Play checkers against Barry? Decent chance. Chess, maybe a lot less. Poker? Just give him your money and go home, save some time.

I didn’t let the fact that he was a Democrat color everything he did later. It stands to reason that since I’m not a D, I would disagree with some things. Again, someone recently did a poll are you liberal, conservative, etc. My response was I’m a conservative, but basically, not across the board, it depends on the issues. That’s how many people responded, Im liberal but…I’m not trying to say Obama is or was some mean old monster or that he’s not a decent person, but I get the impression that any criticism of him or anytime I mention I disagreed with a policy of his or am stupid enough to open my big mouth on these boards and say, yes, I freaking thought he wasn’t right for the country because of a gut freaking feeling that many think I’m attacking the man.

At least I can look back on the life of Donald Trump, see him in broad daylight for all his narcissism, inflated ego, shady and poor business practices, ethically and morally bankrupt character, loathsome behavior, sexist actions, anti-intellectualism, petulant attitude and say, “that motherfucker scares the shit out of me, and you’d have to be out of your goddamned mind to vote for that asshole.”

I just don’t see how you got a bad vibe from Obama, and yet think Trump is aces. Blows my mind.
