Current headline on CNN: “Mexican president disputes Trump’s account of meeting”. I bet that there is someone, somewhere, who read that headline and thought, “I wonder how that could have happened?”. And that person can probably vote. ---

Name two places that Donald Trump could go and reasonably expect to not speak to a single potential voter. How about 1) Mexico and 2) an African-American church in Detroit on Labor Day. Oh look! They’re both on Don’s schedule! How is this guy even polling outside of the 20s? ---

In real life, “discuss” means a situation in which one party verbally relates information to another party, even if the other party doesn’t reply\*. Even if both parties came with prepared statements, each of them can claim to have “discussed” with the other party the items contained in the prepared statements. \*“Sophia, clean your room.” “Sophia, clean your room!” “Sophia, did you hear me?” “God, Dad, why do you have to be so hostile?” See? Nieto had everything to lose by meeting with Trump. I can’t quite come up with his motive behind the meeting. I understand he left a standing invitation but it could not have been easier for him to make indefinite excuses for not following through with it. He’s running a country with a massive disapproval rating. Surely, “Not a good time right now, Donald” would have been easy enough to say. But no. He laid out the welcome mat. Why the fuck did he do that? It only makes sense if there is more to be released from Mexico about the actual conversation that took place behind closed doors. And Trump knows it. Hence the hard line Immigration Policy speech last night. It’s a pre-emptive F.U. to Nieto.
