There is a thread on just [that](https://boards.straightdope.com/t/what-reason-is-there-to-think-trump-would-be-let-out-pending-appeal/998564). Unfortunately there is the example of [Governor McDonnell](https://boards.straightdope.com/t/what-reason-is-there-to-think-trump-would-be-let-out-pending-appeal/998564/62) though he had enough grounds to ultimately win his appeal
