I’m a short guy, about 5’5". Yeah, the dating pool is a little smaller for us short guys. Most women who prefer tall guys won’t mention that, because it’s rude to mention it, but plenty of women prefer to date men taller than them, and most of those women aren’t in my dating pool. I have a friend, a lovely woman who’s about 6’ tall. A few times when we talked about dating she mentioned her preference for tall guys, and mock-apologized to me, and it was a little uncomfortable; we weren’t gonna date anyway, there was no real need for her to point that out. But it was small potatoes, not something to get worked up over. And the thing is, plenty of people have their dating pool restricted by something they can’t control. I know **Derek** thinks weight is entirely in a person’s control, but that’s a superstitious view that ignores a tremendous amount of biological research. Some folks have a skin color, or a hair type, or a disability, or a mental illness, that restricts their dating pool. Sucks, but there it is. None of those reasons are the fault of the people who aren’t attracted to you. Blaming people for not finding you attractive is insane. But that’s not even what Derek is doing. He’s not accepting, with wry good grace, the fact that he like many other people has his dating pool restricted by physical factors out of his control. He isn’t even blaming the women who aren’t attracted to him, as a lot of “nice guys” do. No: he’s constructed an elaborate fantasy wherein he’ll be expected to date transwomen (expected by whom, and why he should care about their expectations, is not well-defined in this fantasy), and then because of these shadowy figures and their expectations, he’s getting mad at the transwomen whom he’s expected to date. It’s profoundly silly, and repellent on every level. ---
