Rape is a pre-existing condition that can lead to higher premiums, so is having a C-section, or surviving domestic violence.

He seems to think it will be tight but the bill will pass. Which is truly astonishing given the limited debate, lack of a new CBO score and the massive stakes involved.

The Democrats will have to mobilize all the energy they can muster to stop this in the Senate and if that fails they need to make sure this becomes the defining issue of the next two election cycles and indeed something that will be remembered for decades as a GOP-made disaster.

Agreed on both points. I follow Matt Fuller and so should everyone who likes this stuff. He’s also funny!

What happened to the Republican platform plank that said that all legislation must be made available for reading on the Internet for three days prior to voting?

Somebody asked Darrell Issa what his stand was on the legislation, and he told them, “None of your business.”

Trump told you _months_ ago this was going to happen. That’s not good enough?

Nah, never mind. They’re using short buses.

Now I’m reading it was the Dems singing it to the Pubs. Having that song be directed at Republican Congresscritters sits better with me than having Republican Congresscritters direct it at the healthcare of 24 million Americans.

All of the CA GOP voted for it. I’m surprised by that. I guess others looked more vulnerable.

As a reminder, put aside thinking that the Senate is more moderate therefore this can’t pass there. It all depends on politics. This isn’t about policy.

I wonder how many Republicans voted against it once they realized that it had enough votes to pass. Apparently, at least two did; the graphic on CNN shows 216 votes in favor, and 4 Republicans not voting, but eventually two of the four voted against it (one in favor, and one did not vote).

My guess? 20. If they had needed all of those votes, I think they probably could have gotten them, with the potential exception of Ros-Lehtinen. They did just enough to get just enough.

They should have made sure to pass it by two votes. Now, each and every one of them was “the deciding vote”.

Every Republican who voted yes will have ads run against them pointing out that they voted to exempt themselves from the effects of this bill:

> Representative Tom MacArthur said he will close the loophole in a separate piece of legislation.
