One indicator if this bothers Trump is if he tweets angry shit. He’s been quiet this morning… so far.
Oh, he’s angry, all right.
It’s just hard to tweet when you haven’t chewed through the straps yet.
Medicare does not cover unlimited hospital stays. There is a deductible per benefit period, then 60 days at 0, 30 days at $329/day, then up to 60 total days in your lifetime when you pay $658. Beyond that, you are on your own.
Nursing facilities cost an average of around 90,000/year. Medicare does not pay this.
Dialysis costs something like 80,000-100,000/year. Original Medicare pays 80% of this.
And further, Good People must be free to be able to tell* “THEM” *others that the misfortunes that befall them are only the result of their own individual bad life decisions, and so society owes them nothing. And if you can’t afford to take the “right” decision oh well, you’ll be fine in Heaven, if you behave.
I am not quite sanguine about this status of things, being aware that an element in the failure of this proposal was that there were Tea Partiers who thought it was not enough and wanted to hold out for honest repeal-and-nothing-else, or even making the new reality yet worse than pre-Obamacare. Because, Freedom, as mentioned above. In any case the Repubs being unable to affirmatively pass legislation on whatever issue (not just ACA) still leaves them able to choose to instead “starve” the standing order by defunding and nonenforcement and just let things fall apart so they can point to the pain and chaos as proof they were right all along.
…as opposed to the other kind he tweets?
Well, there’s stupid shit, which I consider to be different than angry shit.
I forgot chemo and the like. Original Medicare pays 80% of it. That leaves 20% for the beneficiary to cover. With no cap.
IMHO, it had nothing to do with Democratic opposition. In some cases – and this was one of them – Congress has 3 political parties, like some weird European parliament. It was a failure of Ryan to build a coalition that comprised a majority,
Sure, feel free!![]()
Hold on, most of the country has your support.
I thought jsgoddess stood for JavaScript Goddess. And I think you have helped me me with j-script on the SDMB.
Yeah, Medicaid picks that up, after the patient’s financial resources are basically exhausted. (Not that there’s anything unreasonable about that.)
The bill for that is gonna get scary when my g-g-generation starts populating the nursing homes in a big way. And it’s not that far off - the first Boomers are now 71 years old.
The buck stops…there.
No, wait…over there.
No, wait…across that football field…
Highlighting the importance of communicating all the ways Republicans have damaged ACA over the years (and especially this year).
Trump and Congress want to lay blame for a future failure of ACA on Democrats. If Democrats can’t effectively communicate how (and sometimes exactly how) Republicans broke ACA (for example by defunding or by effectively neutering personal mandates), then the Republican narrative that ACA was ill-conceived WILL win the day.
The great deal maker reportedly alienated the Freedom Caucus on Thursday when, in response to their detailed questions, told them, “Forget the little shit and focus on the big picture.” Also, his earlier threat to “go after” Mark Meadows backfired. Meadows wanted to get to a bill he could vote for, but after Trump’s threat, voting “yes” would have made him look weak. There was no way he could vote with Trump after that.
Art of the Deal, ladies and gentlemen.
You know, it’s almost starting to look like Trump’s business success was due more to inheriting wealth and bullying weaker adversaries than to skillful negotiations. I hate to say it, but maybe he’s been conning us.
 If what you say is true, hoo boy.
WHAT???
This, plus the fact that the Freedom Caucus inadvertently helped the Democrats…
<ThelmaLou rushes to the window and looks up at the sky>
Do I hear the approaching hoofbeats of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse??
<Turns on the kitchen faucets to see if blood comes out…>
This can’t be true because Ryan is on record saying the president hit it out of the ball park, “He knocked the cover off the ball!”.
Followed by… Toad Rage…!
“Vrooom…! Vrooom! Heh-heh… I’m the Trucker an’ YOUR NOT!!!”
So the main theme in Trump’s and Ryan’s press conferences was that Obamacare was collapsing. Ryan actually said something about how they were trying to do Democrats a favor with Trumpcare and boy will they look foolish when Obamacare collapses!
Simply put, I don’t believe them. They are known liars, some of whom still think that there are indeed Death Panels. And in an interview with some rep from Alabama, he pretty much said that his constituents will be fucked but oh well!
That said, I do know that some areas only have one insurance company offering plans, the rate hikes and other legitimate issues.
Since the Republicans seem unable to, you know, actually try and fix these problems, how bad will they be? They’re throwing around the “death spiral” term and I feel like Chicken Little at this point. Is the sky falling for real this time?
Depends. A lot they can do to sabotage and ensure it. Question they would face is getting away with it. Six weeks ago, might have said they surely would. Now, not so sure. Ugly either way, if they try to “fix” they will fuck it up, but it needs fixing. If nothing is done, people will suffer.
Shit.
