Trumpcare

Someone here called it “DonTcare”.
ETA: it was AtomThought

Trumpcare is a perfect name. The GOP expected something super shiny and got something tacky and overpriced.

45’s in charge, it gets his Name™. And his voters need to know that the candidate they voted for is the one who is ultimately responsible for their suffering.

Trump said, ‘Everyone will be covered.’

Some by an insurance plan, others by dirt.

Is there any healthcare reform that could be enacted in America without a huge dip in approval rating/popularity? Obamacare was a big weight on the Obama presidency and Trumpcare will do the same to Trump. Even if the USA were to go full single-payer, that would smash approval ratings down to the 20s or 30s perhaps.

It’s a third rail which NO one can safely touch.

Dozens of town hall meetings lately seem to be showing us that getting rid of health care plans is also a “third rail”.

Hillary had the right idea. She wanted to gradually expand Medicare, first offering it to those 50 and older (if I recall correctly, may have been 55 and older) in exchange for premium payments. Just doing that would have taken some of the oldest, sickest citizens out of the regular exchanges and eased premiums costs for older Americans because they would then be participating in a single payer system.

If all the states had signed on to the Medicaid expansion, Congress not fought the ACA tooth and nail at every turn – including actively funding advertising to discourage younger Americans from entering the program – and Marco Rubio not undercut it with his risk corridor antics ( Marco Rubio Quietly Undermines the ACA ), I think the ACA would have been a resounding success. Yes, tweaks needed to be made, but it is far from the enormous failure constantly described by those who want to hate anything Obama ever did.

That’s my point.

Touching healthcare is a no-no; you’ll crash in the polls. Enacting Obamacare was unpopular. Removing Obamacare is unpopular. The only thing you can do as a politician is status quo, status quo.

I thought you were only critcizing one side of the equation-My apologies.

If you only care about tomorrow, yes. If you care about your popularity more long-term, any move towards socialized health care for all will eventually become popular when people see it is cheaper and has equal or better patient outcomes on the whole. For all the noise about horrible socialized ACA, when you poll based on what it does and leave out the name “Obamacare” it actually is popular.

It doesn’t do anything for a party’s popularity so much as the program itself becomes permanent. Voters hate Democrats for passing ACA yet want to keep most of it.

Trump could win the health care game.

He is known for outrages solutions. So, allow Medicare to negotiate the cost of medicines. The member just shows a Medicare card, none of the Plan D nonsense. Put single payer in place by explaining that it is the only system that makes business sense. The approvals of both Trump and the Republican Congress would go through the roof. I’d vote for him.

I’m not holding my breath.

“Only Nixon could go to China” eh? :dubious:

I loathe Trump, and what he’s trying to do to the country. But if he were to pull that off, I’d give the Devil his due as having accomplished one of the greatest feats in U.S. history. (But I still wouldn’t vote for him.)

Negotiating drug prices does not get rid of Part D and allow you just to show a Medicare card. Part D is the thing that allows you to have drug coverage with Medicare. So I’m confused when you talk about “that Plan [sic] D nonsense.”

I know we’re talking about this in a different thread, so I’ll try to answer your questions there.

exactly

offhand, it’s the only thing I can think of that he could do to pull his presidency out of the toilet. so, of course, he won’t.

Even Hitler was smart enough not to force the Zeppelin Company to name the LZ 129 after him.

The best possible name would be [del]Obama[/del]TrumpCare

You know it’s bad when Trump doesn’t want to put his name on it.

This sound right to me ! It scare the shit out me ! I am really worried about elderly people that live alone and depend on their health aides and visiting nurses to be able to keep living at home and not have to go to a nursing home . I personally wouldn’t want a health aide but there are a lot of people that do. I heard on the news hours will be cut back on health aides ! Trump making America less caring !
